If you get a chance, the Wallawa Whitman NF, Baker City, LaGrande and the Snake River are worth seeing. The Sawtooth mountains are a personal favorite.
The trail is actually a lot tougher than it was in the 90s. The steps down to the three Feathers obstacle are very eroded and the steps are higher. Pretty much the whole trail is rocky now. The Joaquin Canyon section is much rockier.
A couple of my desires on a rack and it starts with concurring that low wind noise is a very high priority.

1. I would like to see a mounting system for off road lights that allows the lights to "flip" down for daily use and garage access.

What's wrong with Eco mode? It's just another tool in the box you can use. Eco mode and some throttle discipline and your highway mileage can be surprisingly good.
