My 14 Civic SI feels great. Has one of the best feeling shifts I've ever driven and I've driven cars from pretty much every era and some racecars. All I'm saying is don't knock it till you try it.
Trust me. Cables will be fine. Go test drive a modern front wheel drive car with a manual. You will be surprised. It might sound like a bad idea but it's not.
Enthusiasts generally want a small cab, short wheelbase, cheap, simple vehicle with a manual so that they can build it the way they want. The problem is enthusiasts usually keep their vehicles for much longer than the average person. Manufacturers are in the business to sell. What sells? Well...
I really think a lot of people would buy manuals if they could afford them. Only putting them in high end models means that many people don't have the money for that. Plus the reason people want a manual is because they don't like the new electronic toys and want control over their vehicle.
Soft offroad style suspension is not ideal at all for towing. You can put air bags and a sway bar on the rear to help but then legally you still can't exceed what is on the door sticker.
Not trying to be "that guy", but if people keep pressuring Ford to get it more towing capacities, then it...
One more thing to think about. With modern traction control systems, they can independently brake each wheel. I'm not saying that it's a replacement for a locker, but I'm not sure that a front locker is needed for most trails, just rear.
But that's my 2 cents.
Aren't the holes in an alternator meant for cooling? A sealed up unit would build up a lot of heat I would think. Heat and electronics aren't the best of friends.
On a new vehicle, it's only a small decrease in mileage, as they have components meant to handle the crap.
Older stuff and small engines with carburetors, it is horrible for them. The ethanol absorbs water and causes corrosion inside carbs and gas tanks and very quickly deteriorates fuel lines...
x100. I'm manual or bust. I can't stand to drive an automatic with more than 4 or 5 gears and that is pushing it. So if the manual is delayed or axed, I will let Ford know how big the ball was that they dropped.
Get them while you can! Gasoline days are limited....
In all seriousness, I'm surprised that this didn't happen sooner even though electric is not as practical yet but lawmakers don't care about practicality.
