I originally mounted mine behind the tire as well, then checked with a SWR meter and my readings were garbage. I bought a BAMF tailgate reinforcement plate and moved the antenna there, closer to the hinges. Immediately my SWR went from around 4 to a 1.1. Just my 2 cents.
