For those more knowledgeable of the front suspension, is there anything that would prevent me from changing the springs this way on Bronco? It looks like I would just have to disconnect the LCA and sway bar before lowering and removing the shock, but I don’t want to be missing something before I...
They are not really comparable. The Bronco roof comes off…it’s has a frame…it comes with usable tires and wheels…it has WAY more real world clearance. Way more. Don’t look at the published numbers, look underneath that Defender.
Maybe, but the guy trying to sell the fix said that the problem was directly related to lift. I also think that we would see more than just yours (and BroncoBuster’s) fail so far if it was a “going to fail” thing. Lots of people are wheeling these, and this seems very isolated.
The steering rack breaks are completely related to lifting the vehicle. It’s extremely uncommon even then, that’s why I posted this thread. This is the first one I have seen (outside of BroncoBuster himself), but it is concerning if the truck is lifted because it could happen. Stock and no...
There is not enough difference to me to make that the deciding factor. Buy the one you like better from a functional standpoint. The noise of the soft top doesn’t bother me; conversations at highway speed are no problem, so I would never give up the convenience to gain a 1db reduction (the...
Yeah, I won't mess with a spring compressor. I plan to use the non-compressor method shown in the Toyota video I linked. It was easy (and safe) with Toyota, I can't see why it wouldn't work here....but we shall see.
Those both show changing out an assembled strut assembly. Changing out the springs requires a different approach. Hopefully we get some applicable Bronco videos as these get out there.
Based on how a similar install has gone for me on an FJ, I think it will take me 20 minutes per strut using the non-spring compressor method.
I don't know that there are any particular issues with the Bronco that would slow things down, but it is basically this method:
I know there is a lot of talk about broken steering racks on lifted trucks, but has anyone actually broken their rack on here? I'm about to lift my Bronco and will upgrade the tie rods, but I can't remember a single incident of a broken steering rack other than from the guy who sells the fix for...
Yeah, the shock is similar, but designed significantly differently (reservoir is revered in location), and it's likely a bit shorter. I would bet it doesn't fit, but they might.
Good feedback. I pulled the trigger on these. I lifted my FJ with it's stock Bilsteins through stiffer springs and liked the way that worked out, so I will try it here.
