It is an option for those wanting to get around the constraint. For those that don't want to get involved with the labor, just wait for Ford to build it the way it was ordered.
See here for the 7 pin: https://www.etrailer.com/question-593176.html
@Tripodbruno It looks like this etrailer wiring kit, 4 pin and then the 7 pin is fairly splice free. The 4 pin uses T connectors.
If it makes you feel any better, I was a day 1 reservation for a Base but wanted a Badlands. Called Ford to change and they told me to cancle and make another reservation. So now I'm a 7/16 reservation.
Bob, I read your other thread. You need to not talk about money if you are trying to negotiate. The only thing that matters is the price. Until you get an agreed upon price for what you want, in writing, discuss nothing else.
Then again, it's a limited supply item in a high demand market. you...
And by the way, your last sentence is horrible. Never give control to someone else when you want something. You tell them, not they tell you. You follow up.
You might want to refrain from talking price and your financial situation in that opening salvo.
Send a short letter asking for what you want and let them know that you will visit the dealer that comes back with the best written offer. Then play mommy against daddy.
Be brief. Get to your point...
