Every manual vehicle I have owned (8 of 17 vehicles in 20 years), I would bang it into what ever(usually 4th) was next to the reverse gear, and then laterally hop in reverse. I had an issue with one truck going into reverse and my buddy said the gate was stiff. Been doing it that was for 20+...
