It's a steel line from the tank to the engine. FYI you will never see rubber fuel lines that run the length of the vehicle. It's a safety hazard.

A scanner would tell you right away which module is offline. If all the fuses are good and disconnecting the battery doesn't reset it then it's probably a bad module or a connector that didn't get pushed all the way into the lock position. Hope it's something simple.

Here's the wiring diagram. As you can see the Trailer Tow Module sends signals and POWER to the 7 Pin Connector. It also talks to the BCM (Body Control Module) as well as the PCM and all of the 30+ modules in the CAN Network.
