The HPL definitely maintained Viscosity with Xw-30 range unlike the Mobil 1 but so far it hasnāt translated to much difference in wear metals (iron).
I was using Mobil 1 AFE (Advanced Fuel Economy) 0W-30 rather than ESP since the AFE has the Ford approval. In my wife's Outer Banks with the 2.7...
Here is my latest 5,000 mile analysis with the HPL PP PCEO 0W-30:
Impressive result, thanks for sharing! 2 ppm iron on a 5k interval is really good. The guys on BITOG say that we need 30(!) samples to make any conclusions statistically valid enough to compare oils. While I don't think we...
I used some test strips to test pH of both the coolant and brake fluid at 30,000 miles and both tested at the almost new end of the scale. Any reason to change them yet if thatās the case?
On the diffs, they were pretty nasty on my Wildtrak at 3k but at 10k there was maybe 25% as much metal on...
Thanks, I drove the one in the bottom picture a few hundred miles today and it seemed to hold the coolant level. The little spots seem to be adhered to the inside of the reservoir rather than floating in the fluid, but I guess the fluid had to bring them there. Maybe they are some kind of...
I have two 2.7 broncos at ~30k mi/2 years since new. The other day I checked the coolant level and they were both about 3-4ā below the min line when checked cold.
I went to the ford dealer and they sold me some Motorcraft yellow prediluted coolant.
A few days later I checked the coolant again...
On preventative maintenance type stuff it really pays off to figure out how to do it yourself. It's the only way to be sure especially if you desire anything other than the standard type of service they're going to give to everyone. The fact that it takes 3-4 months to get on the schedule at...
I tried this High Performance Lubricants (HPL) premium plus PCEO 0W-30 in my Wildtrak. It's an all PAO/Ester base-oil (Group IV/V) formula, and therefore is a bit pricey, about twice as expensive as the M1 AFE I was using before. If youāre looking for a 10-15k mile capable oil though, this...
Did an oil change and wanted to put it in my service history on FordPass like I always do only to find the app seems to have erased all of the entries I have made for both of my Broncos. Is there any way to get them back? It does allow me to make new entries but Iād prefer not to have to relog...
I have done a few 500 mile used oil analyses on two separate 2.7ās that show fuel dilution as high as 3.4% in that time. A single 20F or colder, cold engine start followed by ~5 minutes of idling is enough to get it there right after an oil change. Carbonsteel did a few at 1000 that showed...
Shouldnāt you continue only using the Motorcraft Synthetic blend and changing when the oil life monitor tells you to (at 10,000 miles most likely) then? Why the wasteful spending on the full synthetic? Ford knows best after all.
Interesting, do let us know what is discovered!
I know that Polaris has a great reputation but I am going to send my next 5,000 mile oil analysis to 3 labs that all claim to use gas chromatography, including Polaris. Like your recent sample, one of mine got lost too, otherwise Iād already have...
This is my last 3 changes with my Wildtrak.
BL is HPL Premium Plus PCMO 0W-30 unused sample.
Lines 1 and 2 are M1 AFE 0W-30 used samples.
Line 3 is a short interval 500 miles after switching to the HPL so that next analysis will have less of the M1 AFE residual oil.
This is the same Wildtrak...
The M1 ESP @CarbonSteel recommends is a great choice.
I used a worse version of M1, advanced fuel economy (AFE) 0W-30 for about 20,000 miles in each of my two broncos and it was fine too, based on UOA. I picked it since Iām in a cold climate and it was one of the only 0W-30 oils that carried...
This 3.5 gallon bucket Home Depot bucket and some 90 degree bent nose 16ā pliers like THESE make it so clean. The 3.5 gal bucket is just the right size to go all the way up to the bottom of the oil pan with just a few inches of clearance. Doesnāt matter how fast the oil comes out of the drain...
I was able to get in there with some combination of a 1/4" ratchet and socket head screwdriver, no big deal while everything is cold. With the stud bolts I had to use the longer depth sockets from my set otherwise the long bolt would prevent contact between the nut and socket. Tightening them...
sorry just saw this,
The transmission should take about 6 - 7 quarts. I would have at least 8 on hand.
Unfortunately after you refill you need to check the fluid level with the engine running and the Bronco in Park. You also need to get the transmission fluid up to 206-215 degrees. At this...
My krazy glue fix blew apart immediately when I shot water through it so I took it to the dealer and they did a nice job fixing it under warranty. Itās possible it got damaged from contacting cargo as my wife does some over landing and stuffs it pretty full.
At 17,300 miles, did my first fluid exchange since dropping the OEM pan for the PPE standard capacity pan at 15000 miles. It was about a dot low before I drained, so about 5 QTs out and 6 QTs in. This was the level at ~210F after I refilled.
I will probably do another 6QT exchange at 20,000...
