Drove around and got the temp almost to 200 to check it. 194 is best I could do
This was the dipstick level at 194. Almost to 3, Iām going to call that good. So 7 QTs out 7 QTs back in worked pretty well.
The Pan
This is what my dipstick was at cold with the engine shutdown for 6 hours. By the way the cover for this thing is truly annoying to take off, confined space and torqued like hell, yet also boogers/strips easy. Needed a 19mm wrench that had a captured/ratcheting function. I could not get it...
Thank you for all the valuable info!
By checking at ambient, do you mean that we can check the level with the engine off, or just with room temp fluid, but engine running?
Also, the pictures seem to show a 3 unit difference between cold and hot fluid, but you wrote it should be between 3 and 4...
I know people will clown on you and I for talking about this but the best way to clear out more of the old oil is probably to do a double change (change it all, and a few hours of engine run time later change it again). I would guess you'd be running 95%+ fresh oil after you did that vs maybe...
I think now is actually a pretty good time. I feel like a rube for paying MSRP for my 2024 wildtrak about a year and a half ago now. That's the way it was from '21 to early '24 though. Timing the bottom of the car market is probably no easier than timing the bottom of the stock market...
I do the off roadeo parking procedure every time I park (foot on brake pedal, apply parking brake, shift to neutral, let settle, then shift to park). My wife also has a Bronco and never does that, she just goes from drive to to park. Maybe in 10 years we can find out if it mattered unless we...
I'm about halfway throgh my first winter with my Wildtrak on the stock goodyear territory M/T. While I'm surviving the winter driving here in Alaska where all the roads are ice (sometimes with gravel spread on top, sometimes not) , driving on-road feels like a game of Mario Kart and trying to...
Iāve had trip 2 keeping track since i got the vehicle 15,000 miles ago and Iām averaging 17.5 MPG. This is at least 75% city driving. Real MPG is probably about 17 even because I find the trip calculator is usually about 5% optimistic. It is a 4 door Wildtrak with a slight front end lift to...
If youāre using a 5W oil it probably isnāt necessary until you get to about -10F, and thatās assuming the oil has āslippedā a winter grade in service. Itās rated to be thin enough to start down to about -20F. -30F if you use 0W. Thatās with no preheating.
As long as the oil is thin enough...
Iāve been running the stock Goodyear Territory MT in south central Alaska this winter. Theyāre not that bad. Like with any unstudded tire I just have to be careful on slopes with ice. Theyāre actually pretty good in snow. My wife has an OBX-non sasq. with cooper snow claw studded 255/70r18...
Just wanted to put it out there in case it helps someone in the future, when I put these Baja Designs Squadron Pro lights on my Bronco everything was great.
Then I tried to angle them outside about 20-30 degrees as shown in the picture, instead of straight ahead. The result was what happened...
It probably only costs about $40 in supplies and 15 minutes of time to do your own depending on how long you want to let the oil drip out. Dealer will keep it all day at a minimum if I'm lucky around here. No harm in doing it at the dealer way if you prefer, other than them using the...
Unpopular opinion:
Bronco Sport is not bad, and for 75%+ of US daily driver use cases it is a wiser choice than a B6G. I can't speak to the long term reliability because I only had my Sport for 30,000 miles, but it was the equal of the B6G when it comes to on-road slippery/winter conditions...
Thanks for this, my Wildtrak doesnāt sound like thereās a Harley in the cargo anymore in Sport mode. The thing is already loud enough from wind noise. Only hiccup was when I first enabled it, parking sensor and hands on steering alerts were coming from the in-dash speaker only and sounded a...
Good video. Despite what Ford and the OLM say, I wouldnāt recommend going more than 5000 miles between changes even with stout oils due to fuel dilution. Several users, myself included have done oil analyses showing 3-5% fuel dilution at or before 5000 miles in the 2.7. This will thin the oil...
Small point, you could option full skid plates for the Wildtrak and the only factory plate that it didnāt include, afaik, is the bash plate for the sway bar, which also covers the front part of the transmission pan. I paid ~ $150 and put the ford sway bar skid plate on when I installed the ford...
