Yeah, no doubt, I wonder if they just start out using 0W-30 for that testing or if they push the limits of 5W-30. Their dealership in Fairbanks, Alaska where they have -50F somewhat regularly apparently services all their customer vehicles with the standard Motorcraft 5W-30 blend.
These were the plugs at 37,500.
They are layed out in cylinder position as they would appear standing in front of the hood.
Condition seems fine to me? But I don't have too much experience judging spark plugs.
The new ones seemed to be gapped properly out of the box at about 0.029ā. Iām...

Prehistoric Saudi Arabian Microplankton blended in Kentucky. (Actually probably group III severely hydrocracked gulf of āmurica crude refined enough to be marketed as āfull syntheticā with a viscosity index of 161).
Thanks for the diagram, I can see why Ford probably omitted the pressure gauge from the digital dash, didnāt want nerds like me fretting over imaginary problems :ROFLMAO: .
We have had a few guys up here with trouble on 5W-30 when it got down to -50, even being on the block heater before...
Iām guessing that the oil pump/ādumpā bypass valve setting is about 80 psi, which corresponds with the minimum values on the Forscan graph. Maybe there is a maintenance document that divulges the actual specification.
Iām going to speculate that the binary 80/130 could be the pump bypass and...
Iām bored so I figured Iād test out how the oil pressure looks with 5W-30 oil close to the low temp limits of the 5W winter rating. No problems or concerns, just curiosity/info.
Pictured here: Temps a few seconds after start; outside is -15F / -26 C. (interestingly the indicated oil temp...
I used Forscan to graph the number of misfires in red on the top and the oil pressure on a cold start in green on the bottom in the attached video.
This is on a 2.7L with 40,000 miles. I can't remember for sure if it always missed like this, but it definitely has some noticeable "skips" during...
Valid criticisms. Unfortunately Shell considers all that to be intellectual property so the video claims by the geek are based on his aggregate oil analysis data which has debatable validity for assessing wear differences between fuels. Outside of a $10,000,000 + engine lab test with teardowns...
Itās a more closely guarded secret than the Colonelās 11 herbs and spices. Just like Afton/Lubrizol/Infineum/Oronite arenāt gonna say whatās in the additive packs of all the oil on the market. Proprietary secrets.
Itās all I use (shell v-power) and I do believe I have the B6G lowest wear metal per 1k mile UOA at 1.6 ššš We can totally turn used oil analysis into a competition right? Seems legit.
4 door Wildtrak (2.7/sasq) 18 MPG in the summer with stock Goodyear territory tires. 15 MPG in winter with Studded Duratracs. I always run shell premium which is only 90 octane in Alaska but the winter blend fuel also affects the mileage negatively. The winter tires are also ~7 lbs heavier...
Been using 75W-140 Amsoil severe gear on Carbonās recommendation in Alaska, in front and rear diffs for about 3 years now. Even with temps as low -25F there has been no issue, including driving through supercooled creeks that have turned my entire undercarriage into a block of ice for days.
I...
I just watched my volts on my 20 minute/15 mile commute today. Last drive was 2 days ago for 1 hour+ so it shouldāve been close to fully charged. Temp was 25 degrees and it had been garaged overnight in 65 degrees. Volts stayed at ~15.1 until about 10 minutes into the drive and which point...
I wouldnāt worry about it. Maybe the voltage is āinferredā like the oil temperature š¤ . Iām about 1000 miles north of you and the batteries get to 15 volts sometimes. Maybe take it for a longer drive on the way home once or twice per week or take a long drive on the weekend a few times a month.
Iāve got two Broncos, ā23 OBX non-sasq with 37k and ā24 Wildtrak with 32k. No problems other than the backup camera recall on the ā23. I go out of my way to drive an hour extra for a good dealer, even though the one 10 minutes away is the same franchise. We have broken a few things that were...
if I remember right it only takes an extra quart or two if you drop the pan and change the filter, about 7-8 quarts. Apparently a lot of the fluid stays in the torque converter.
It seems to be right about 5.5 quarts every time I do a drain and fill with the standard PPE. Since 5.5 isnāt even half of the 13.1 quart 10r60 capacity, I plan to do a double or triple drain and fill every 30k and maybe drop the pan with the filter change every 60k.
Just thought Iād add that in slippery mode, at 42 mph or higher, 4A seems to continuously apply 50% power to the front wheels. This is according to the power distribution screen. In normal or sport with 4A on Iāve gone as high as 80 mph and it will remove power from the front wheels after a few...
unfortunately he is right, the parent company of Fram (First Brands) is presently Bankrupt. Fram had a renaissance 2010-2018 before First Brands bought them out. The OG Ultra was a great filter. Fortunately the cartridge filter for the 2.7 is pretty hard to mess up as long as you use decent...
