I just went through this. If you are trying to duplicate the factory tow setup, there is a wiring harness for that, but it's difficult to get and hard to install. The OEM hitch is also difficult to find.
Some other treads regarding this issue...
Yes. It's rubber, so probably not the source of what I'm hearing. It sounds just like a blown speaker when it makes the noise. What's got me scratching my head is that sometimes it's bad, sometimes it's not. It definitely makes the same noise if I play the same song, but is it possible it's not...
That sounds about right to me, if you are trying to duplicate a factory installed tow setup, and the price includes the hitch. I was lucky to obtain the 7 pin wiring harness and only had to pay the labor price charged on the Ford accessories site. (Installed at a Lincoln dealer.) The invoice...
I got it on Amazon. It's a knock off of a more expensive version of the same thing. I tried to look it up, but its been taken down. Probably a patent or copyright infringement thing...

This was mine for a week. Hit a streetlight and the pier cap ripped it up underneath. Sad situation that had a happy ending because I have good insurance. It's a badlands with sas and lux packages. Suspension, frame, and firewall damage. I'm in a Wildtrak now.
This is about to be on the auction block. Less than 400 miles on it. Sure would like to have the hitch and skidplates.
