With a First Edition, being rare, unique, and not something they can just order up another, I think you'd have a good case to sue for specific performance.

If there's anything on the dealer paperwork with your reservation or order number I think you have a strong argument to tie it to the exact VIN through the Ford communications, negating the "no VIN" argument, and possibly the "Badlands" issue.
You're confusing when you own the vehicle with what constitutes a contract.
If I'm buying a house and put it under contract I don't own it until closing, but when the seller and I sign a contract and I put down earnest money the seller can't just give my money back and say "oops, had a better...
Just thinking out loud here...and I'm not a lawyer. I had some exposure to the "American Sovereign" nonsense through my exes ex. One of their shticks is to file liens on everything, typically bogus but wastes time and clouds title on everything.

Not a lawyer, but I think similar to a real estate contract, you could sue for specific performance since the FE is a unique item. It is a contract as you've both agreed and consideration was paid.
