4WD with open diffs is essentially two wheel drive, as the power will go to the fastest spinning wheel on each axle. However, that means that 2WD with an open diff is basically one wheel drive for the same reason.
4WD will have twice the traction, so it’s much better even with open diffs.
Since you’re new, I recommend you get out there and off road with your stock Bronco. There is a lot you can do without lockers.
As you gain experience, you will be in a better position to decide if you want a limited slip diff, gears, a lift, lockers, bigger tires, and/or just keep rolling stock.
