Great write up ! I was there that same weekend also just in another group. Like you I have not done much off roading with the exception of dirt and gravel roads in south Mississippi. I was impressed with the Broncoās capability.
I stayed in town at the Hampton inn. I noticed a couple of newer cool looking hotels as well. The 20 minute drive along the Colorado river to get to base camp was beautiful.
