I DO care about newbs listening/reading how to worthlessly spend time and money because they might believe, unthinkingly, some of the laboratory, not real life, stuff spread by oil fanaticism.

Some folks don't analyze, or consider.
They need to know the truth, the truth that was coaxed out;
Probably no value for 150,000 miles and then questionable value afterward.

"Cheap Brand X will net you, maybe 150k miles before things start to get dirty and impact reliability, whereas Premium Brand Y might be able to get you to 400k miles."

Above; that's what was said when coaxed to say it.
as said, as written.
I've said nothing different.
I think nothing(much)different.

I don't understand paying extra for a premium synthetic oil, then following an oil change interval that's designed for dinosaur oil. The premium oils are designed for modern engines with turbos etc.

Seems like throwing money away. But then the placebo effect applies to car ownership and there is a "feel good" factor. I've never seen any solid and reliable documentation that supports spending money like that. Much seems to be "that's what I saw on the internet," "that's how we did it years ago," "I read about it years ago and it makes sense," etc. But never any solid documentation. I prefer facts and not hearsay when I'm making decisions about how to maintain my Bronco.

Well...

... This is what most people are thinking of when they are looking at all this oil analysis. Cheap Brand X on a 10,000 mile schedule will net you, maybe 150k miles before things start to get dirty and impact reliability, whereas Premium Brand Y might be able to get you to 400k miles on a 5,000 mile schedule.

...

If you are one of those people that gets a new vehicle every 3-5 years, then you probably don't care at all - the consequences of doing the standard duty oil change will probably never catch up to you and the engine will probably run perfectly fine for the entire time you own the vehicle. But if you are one of those who buy a vehicle for 10yrs-life... then you care very much...
