The 2.7 will always be faster and the better engine choice.

Does anyone know if you can make “Sports Mode” a default setting in FORScan?
Has not been discovered if it’s possible. A third party tuner can tune regular mode to
match/exceed Sport mode though

So, I’m curious why so many are concerned about how quick their Bronco is? I bought my wife a Sasquatch 4dr outerbanks for hauling our grandchildren around. It’s the 2.3 and the dealer did install the Procal tuner for what that’s worth. It seems pretty quick to me for a big square brick on 35’s, actually kinda impressive. She normally drives a c8 and I drive a gen3 Raptor, why are you guys so concerned about how quick a Bronco is? Makes zero sense to me. Buy something fast if you want to go fast. The bronco is pretty amazing at doing Bronco stuff, trips to the mall, grocery shopping, etc. (kidding on that part) it really is a great off road suv.

Cause “I feel the need, the need for speed”.

If given the option, why not go for the stronger, faster more reliable 2.7? It only makes sense IMO.

And I want to know that if I am in a situation that I need power and speed it’s there.

OBX SAS LUX 2.7

Because the ability to accelerate is alway useful and can actually increase safety. I live in the D.C. area which means I drive on the beltway a lot. The 2.7 merges and keeps up with aplomb (and a pleasing growl). Oh yeah, and it's fun. General rule in life: when one finances a vehicle for years, choosing less power to save a few bucks often results in some remorse. Who wants remorse with a 5+-year note? You will make some up in resale. A sage once said, always reach for the higher power.

One of the things about the Forester is that if you are moving at more than 12 MPH and you mash the pedal, it will not kickdown. The tranny is so lightweight, the designers did not want a driver to punch into high revs even though it would still be in the fat part of the torque curve well below red line. This low downshift lockout speed basically neuters any acceleration power at low speeds. I am looking to avoid having that situation again.
Be sure when you test drive you put the Bronco in "Sport Mode" and it will respond in the way you are looking for.

I lost track of the original question but having owned both a 2.7 (non SAS) and a 2.3 (SAS) in 2 door BLs don’t drive a 2.7 if you really want a 2 door. The 2.7 was totaled so we were forced into the 2.3.

Not sure about all the on ramp racers out there but the torque and smoothness of the 2.7 is orders of magnitude better than the 2.3. The 2.3 will get it done but you really need to stick your foot in it to make it happen, its power is up high vs down low for the 2.7. I don’t care what the graphs tell you, my observation is based on 33K miles in the 2.7 and 10K in the 2.3.

You buy horsepower but drive torque and the 2.7 handily wins that contest.

ohhh fancy, those had the door inserts! Don't blaze a new trail as suggested, everyone gets mad about that now, i tried to explain it was a Bronco so it was okay that I cut through his backyard.... He looked near violence... I punched it and jumped his hedges out of there!!!

My favorite quote out of all of this talk on these two motors is "a great Growl" I'd call it a ferocious meow.... It would sound better in Billet...
