@bpdittenber and I will be heading to Uwharrie for a shakedown run next weekend, 10 - 12 July. This is in preparation for an upcoming five day trip to western NC and eastern TN in early August.
Like always, we extend the invitation to anyone who would like to join. You can stay the whole time or join us on the day of your choice. Link up will be 1000 at the Eldorado Outpost each day.
The following is the general breakdown by day. This is subject to change based on participation, group input, and experience.
Day 0 (10 July)
- travel (Charlie Mike, bpdittenber)
- NLT 2000 set up camp (location TBD)
Day 1 (11 July)
- 1000 link up at the Eldorado Outpost
- 1030 run Wolfden, Lakeview, and Falls Damn trails (easy/stock friendly)
- lunch
- run Rocky Mount Loop, Sawmill, and Slab Pile trails (moderate/stock friendly)
- dinner
- 2000 optional night run of Falls Damn, Lakeview, or Wolfden trails (easy/stock friendly)
Day 2 (12 July)
- 1000 link up at the Eldorado Outpost
- 1030 run Wolfden, Dutch John and Daniel (backside) (moderate/difficult, skid plates required, lockers recommend)
- lunch
- run Dickey Bell (moderate/difficult, skid plates required, lockers recommend)
- break camp
- depart
Things to note:
You will need a pass for each day that you are there. Passes can be purchased at the Eldorado Outpost for $5 (day pass) or $30 (season pass).
You can find videos of the trails on YouTube. Some videos will make it look way more difficult than they really are. Though some videos will make them look way easier, lol. This will at least give you an idea of what each one is like. To give you an idea, I have done all of them in a stock OBX SAS with full skids. Your skids may get a workout depending on the line you take.
@bpdittenber and I will be primitive camping where dispersed camping is allowed. We will try and find a location for a large group (up to 6 vechicles). If primitive camping isn't your thing, there are cabins for rent as well as a paid campground within the Uwharrie National Forest.
If you would like to join us please reply with the following.
Trim + SAS/non SAS:
Offroad experience: (none/some/moderate/experienced)
Can/willing to spot: Yes/No
Skids: Yes/No
Radio: Yes/No (GMRS)
Camping: Yes/No
Or
Day: 1 or 2
Hope to see you there!
