Five years ago, I was awaiting the arrival of my 2021 Outer Banks. I ordered the 6cyl 4-dr with the rear locker, 4.27 gear upgrade and the Auto 4wd Transfer case, so that one day I could do a partial Sasquatch upgrade with a gentle lift.
The most I've done is upgrade to 33 in tires, on Badlands wheels, adding width and barely a half-inch in height, but its been fine for my beach driving. Two goals are driving my search for an upgrade in coilovers:
(1) I want the option of adding 35" tires for trips to more challenging terrain, and
(2) The ride has become bone-jarringly brutal. Either the OEM Hitachis are worn out at 85,000 miles, or I'm aging. I want a plusher ride.
But, I do urban driving with 6'5" parking garages, and I have a half rack, so I don't want to go too high . . . Between 1 and 2 inches of adjustability seems good, so I can crank up the height for a trip West, or keep it at 1.2 inches for now, which is actually the lift height used for Sasquatch (Hoss 2) over my Hoss-1 Hitachis.
The Ford Performance Fox 3.0 kit seems high at 2" and lacks adjustability, but nice price at $2500 and has 5 ride zones. The Bilstein 8112 kit seems ideal, but is priced over $6000, height adjustability starts around 2" of lift (1.7F & 2.6R) and I've seen lots of success with folks upgrading their Sasquatch with the 8112 but no reports on non-sas. Popular kits on 6g from Icon & Fox all start at 2.5" and go higher from there. More than I want.
Radflo. I've discovered that Radflo makes exactly what I want, but I don't know anyone that has installed it. They have two lift ranges (my words) in their 600 series, a "Replacement" set (aka Standard Travel) for 0-2 inch lift over Hoss 1, and an "Extended Travel" set for 2-3 inch lift. Options for the remote reservoir include 0, 1 or 2 ride adjusters, and all have threaded 2.5" bodies. I've worked with a Radflo tech to find 4 shocks for $4338, built just for me, installed by my local shop. I'll start at 1.2" height, maybe 34" tires . . . What are your thoughts? Experience? Or will I be among the first? Very comfortable ride?
