I've thought of going with the Herculiner or similar spary/brushed on stuff. That's definitely an option and once you are said a done it looks good. But not sure if I want to tackle that much work which is a must if you want it to look right and last. Was thinking more along the line of adhesive plastic/rubber panels you can remove, kind like the door sill protectors.

Do you know where this photo came from? I want to know what kind of surface prep was required to do this. I have some big scratches in my tailgate, too, and would like a better-looking and durable solution

Got it from the bronco6g fb group but no mention of prep in the post. But in order to look that good and last it will be intensive, at minimum a good sanding down with 400 grit and a good clean with a grease remover or adhesion promoter spray. Pretty sure the one in the pic was sprayed, never seen the paint roller one come out as nice as that one specially on a vertical surface.
