Tires…. Ditched the useless (and ugly) stock OBX tires for a full set of 33” Toyos. MPG went from 20 down to 16 at best. I won’t look back! Worth every trip to the pump and made the sand, beach, fire roads and occasional farm driving I do infinitely more pleasurable.

20 to 16? I went from the 29" Duelers to 34.6" MT Bajas and went from 21 to 19.5mpg.

Yeah that snorkel catches wind about as aero dynamic as a space shuttle doing re entry backwards. lol In high wind you can even feel the bronco pull just to the right because of it when you are in 60 mph winds. Now that it’s not there, on highway you don’t feel that and MPG went up like crazy. Pretty nuts honestly.

The biggest factor for me is my right foot. I have a 2.3L with a manual non-SAS and if I drive it for mileage I can get pretty decent numbers (20-24), but then it's really fun to accelerate through the gears then my mileage drops like a rock (15-18).

My guess is you get more highway miles in than I do. I’m also running the 2.7. Our 2.3 2 door experienced a similar loss to you.

A lot more goes into MPGs than the diameter of the tire.... such as sidewall stiffness and width which are just factors of rolling resistance.... I could go to a smaller diameter tire and get even lower MPG.... Softer sidewalls increases flex on the trail and rolling resistance on the road.... It is all a give and take, Pros and cons....

Both my Nitto G3's and engine tune equally hurt the mileage, very worth it though.

Maybe so. Lots of variables. My wife gets 20 with her 4 door SAS, but probably different gearing, too.

37" tires by a long shot....

You do enough off road that I bet they help quite a bit. You air those down and the ride is so much smoother and much better grip. I KNOW the type of areas you are traveling. I am just east of you in Idaho. I love following your travels.

Thank you for the kind words. The lift and 37" tires is simply to keep the desert sage brush off the skid plates. One fire scare was enough for me!

Oh I get it.... this last weekend I took a drive up past squaw mountain one mountain range west of Ola Idaho.... just a bunch of hunting trails... that seemed to disappear at times. I was very glad to have all the clearance I could get. I love getting over to the succor creek area on the East side of your state.
