Kind of hard to see against the garage floor, but here is one of the snipped ends. I’d say that’s roughly 10-12 feet of cable. Honestly, the intended install method of the winch being directly over the top, having that much cable doesn’t really make that much sense to me unless you have a commercial grade garage or an RV garage. But also wouldn’t make much sense for the manufacturer of the winch to offer it in different cable lengths either, just a one fits all instead. Yours may be different, your install skills may be better than mine and therefore it’ll spool correctly. I just had to “McGyver” mine a little to get it to work correctly for my install parameters.

Glad you got yours working but you shouldn’t have had to cut any off like that…

I have my hoist now and will be installing soon and the wires seem taught/ie look like they would spool at same rate. If it doesn’t I’m going to contact Lange for a replacement. Cutting off 12 feet of line is unacceptable

It went "birds nest" on me when I went to start feeding the wires through the pulleys and couldn't get it back to normal after that. I lost the tension when I removed the packing rubber bands on the spools to start feeding it through the pulleys to the floor. I got it to work though.

Anyone else have issues fitting the 8 inch and 12 inch 2-door bars into the main rig? It doesn’t want to fit and scrapes off the red coating…

For those who have installed the Lange hoist for the 2-door what was the difference needed in “slack” between the front eye hook and the rear.

I know I’ll have to do some trial and error to get it level but a rough estimate would help start things.

For example is the rear hook 6 inches more slack than the front?

thanks!!

Anyone know how low bottom of the HT hangs from the ceiling? Trying to decide if my ceiling is high enough for this to sit above my garage door when garage door is open.

I was wondering the same thing as I have about 30.5" above my door. Installed my Lange on the front wall above the garage door and the ceiling mounted 2x6" with the pulleys just beyond the door so if it did not fit above the door I would not have to move it. Glad I did it this way as the top hangs down about 35" and there really is nothing that can be done to get it any closer to ceiling. I'll post pics in a new post.

More pics:

As you can see, I've got the clamps as tight as possible on the cable loops and the clamps are even onto the pulleys a bit, so you can't really get it any closer to the ceiling than this (35"). I was tempted to put the 2x6 boards above the ceiling in the attic to gain the 1.5" and a cleaner install with just the pulleys on the ceiling, but this would not have made any difference for me.

I was tempted to shorten the cables as Nc211 did. The cables did not go "birds nest" on me, but they were not wound that well towards the end so it would not hoist up "level" the whole way. I ended up having my wife push the feed out / lower button as I walked the lifting rack towards the back of my 48' deep garage holding tension on both cables. When we were close to the end, she then hit the raise button and with me keeping the tension on both cables the whole way in, both wound neatly row by row on the spools as intended. This was way easier than "shortening" the cables for me.
As Nc211 stated, I do not see any reason for these cables to be as long as they are though. 10' high ceiling and winch about 10-12' from from pulleys I'm guessing I could have cut 20' off of each cable for my installation.

What to do with your Lange Hardtop Hoist in the winter when your hardtop is on your Bronco ??

We bought this patio table and the 1st winter it took up space in my garage and the hoist was empty. This past winter, I got brave and figured out how to lift the heavy table top using the hardtop hoist. Table top is 5' in diameter and weighs about the same as the hardtop; table base is only 32" in dia, so that remained on the garage floor.
I had purchased 2 different lengths of straps to hoist my soft top and these 6.5' straps ended up not being used and just so happened to be the perfect length for this table top. As a safety precaution I also put 4 hooks in the ceiling and added 2 ratchet straps to take some of the load off the winch.

Worked very well ...

Harbor Freight. Afterwards I bought the top lift cart and remove the top and store it on the lift cart. I bought a second MIC top from a Bronco owner who no longer wanted it and now store that top from the rafters on the hoist.
