I'm going to order a new Bronco from the factory. Will anyone in Michigan come close to Granger, or should I just plan to make the trip to Iowa?

First off, welcome.

It might take some time to find a GOOD dealer. There are some...I've learned to go into smaller towns. The huge one 1/2 mi from my house is not one. Sad. So I go 30 min west...

Car dealer allocations are the system manufacturers (OEMs) use to decide which dealerships get which specific vehicles. In 2026, this system has shifted back toward a "Turn-and-Earn" model as production levels have stabilized, though high-demand models remain heavily gated.

Manufacturers don't just send cars randomly; they use a performance-based formula to determine a dealer’s "slot" in the production line. Turn-and-Earn is the primary metric. The faster a dealer sells their current inventory (their "turn rate"), the more future inventory they "earn." If a car sits on the lot for 60+ days, it negatively impacts that dealer's future allocation. The 1st and 15th Cycle: Most manufacturers (like Toyota or Ford) release allocation notices twice a month which is the 1st and 15th Cycle. This is when a dealer finds out exactly what trims, colors, and packages have been assigned to them for the next production window.

Some OEMs use an algorithm that favors dealers with the lowest "days’ supply" of a specific model. If Dealer A has 2 units left and Dealer B has 10, the next truckload is likely heading to Dealer A. Larger, high-volume dealerships in major metro areas generally receive a larger "base" allocation and better access to limited-edition trims.

If you are placing a custom order, the "allocation" is essentially the "ticket" the dealer needs to turn your request into a real car. Status 111/112: When a dealer has an open allocation, they can move your order to "Status 111" (Order Accepted). Without an open allocation slot, your order is just a "dealer request" sitting in their internal system, not yet recognized by the factory. You only get a confirmed production number once the factory matches your order to one of the dealer's specific allocation slots.

In 2026, for standard models, delivery usually takes 3–4 months from the time the allocation is secured. For high-demand or specialized vehicles, this can still stretch significantly longer. Shop High-Volume Dealers. They have more "slots" and can often get a custom order into production faster than a small rural dealer.

Both Granger and Long McArthur Ford (www.longmcarthur.com) are two good options. Both are high volume dealers.

We went with Granger. Process was quick and easy.

Michigan is a big place but I would try going through Brighton Ford or Bill Brown Ford first to try and get the best deal and customer service before traveling that far away.

Do you have direct sales contacts at these dealers? I put in a request through Bill Brown and heard nothing back. Brighton has no internet interface. I hate picking up the phone or going in person because when buying cars in the past I have had bad experiences with that approach. Good experiences have always come from referrals. I'm not from this area, so that may be unfair to the local dealers.

I did find one local sales rep with another Detroit area dealer through a friend, and so far the quote seems to be about $2,000 higher than Granger

I love Granger so far. I sent them an email with the specs I wanted from Ford's website and got a competitive quote for the order the next day. Great! I'd just rather have a relationship with a local business if it's price competitive.

We have purchased three vehicles in the last four years from Granger when we lived in Los Angeles, California. We caught a flight down there and drove the new baby home over 1600 miles. The process was as easy as 1-2–3. Absolutely zero hassles. Now that we are in Holly, Michigan we are still flying down there in about two months to pick up our new bronco and drive it home.

Sounds like you’ve got it sorted pretty thoroughly. I bought my Bronco Raptor all online from Brighton but that was quite a few years ago now so things may have changed

The bottom number on the sales invoice is not the only thing to consider.

Granger is without a doubt excellent, I bought one through them.

I also have a great small town dealer not too far away to price check through. That is where Bronco #1 came from.

That being said, the cheapest option for picking up or shipping from Granger to Chicago, or taking time off work for the road trip, hotel etc etc is still around a grand, so if my local dealer can get close to those numbers , local is the way to go.

In the end, the shipper was $750 in 2023 ..... lost wages, fuel, meals , hotel etc etc , and it was a bad time to take off from work , shipping became an easy choice, even though I LOVE road trips ... it was just easier. NO hassle.

The shipper was "Road Runner".
Granger was about 7 hours away per Maps, they made the trip in 8 or so.
