I have a 2025 badlands with the 2.7 V6 engine and about 6000 miles on it. A couple of days ago I discovered that if I give the Bronco gas while in neutral or park, the RPMs are limited to 4000. While in gear, then engine will rev past 4000. If this design feature to protect the engine, or is it a sign of a problem? Thanks.

It’s a soft limiter to prevent what I like to call, “stoopid”.

I hoped that was the case. Thanks.

I am surprised it went to that high rpm in neutral. I know many are limited to around 3,000 rpm. High rpm unloaded is harder on the engine than loaded high rpm.

Yep...prevents someone not paying attention as they adjust stuff from pushing for leverage and blowing the engine in the process.

Think I terms of reaching to the back while in the driver's seat...we all know someone that has done it...
