Historic stuff like that in National Parks and on other federal land is protected by law no matter what you think about it.
Leaving aside the particulars of this one incident, we don't get to go out there and damage, remove, or destroy historic stuff because we, as an individual or a group...
Something I forgot to mention:
We're getting into the time of year when the southwestern deserts start to get really dangerous for dehydration and heat stroke. Saline Valley is almost as hot as Death Valley. Starting in May I wouldn't go out alone on any remote, little-used trail in the...
I'm glad you found my info helpful.
Sure, it's only a one-mile walk to the main road. However, he was in deep mud and may have found it pretty hard or impossible to walk even a short distance. This is the kind of mud that make your boots taller and heavier with every single step. Ask me how...
I have a little more context to contribute.
The incident happened in Saline Valley near Death Valley. The area was BLM land until 1994 when it was made part of Death Valley National Park.
I've been to Saline Valley. The white area at the top of the aerial photo is a dry lake bed at the...
The OP asked about the MTs, not the ATs. Different tires. MT tires generally don't as well as ATs in snow and ice, which could be important for some reading this thread.
Basically, federal rangers are not going to enforce state laws on federal land. You're still subject to state law but it's up to the state to enforce those laws (except in particular national parks where the state has ceded all law enforcement authority to the feds).
State and county law...
Oh there is no way I'm paying ADM. My purchase (Bronco or Tacoma) will be late in the year at the earliest. I expect to be paying below ADM, but how much will depend on market conditions at that time.
2 months later, and Future Ford in Roseville, CA is still asking $5K ADM on Broncos. They’re on the edge of a medium-sized metro, not some area awash in tech money.
Another thumbs up for Stanley Basin, Sawtooth Valley, and Redfish Lake. That's a much more scenic route than the Snake River Plain.
Also seconding Great Basin National Park. I agree it's highly underrated. I wasn't terribly impressed with the cave, but the scenery is awesome and not what...
I think you'd also need to leave the garage door cracked so the cats can get in to deal with the mice, or else install a cat door. Otherwise the garage is a safe refuge from almost all predators other than maybe snakes.
I've had gas siphoned twice since 1981, and the windshield wipers vandalized once. All incidents were far from home while parked in somewhat remote areas for hiking trips. Both of the gas siphoning incidents almost resulting in my running out of gas while trying to make it through mountainous...
My first time driving on sand in 4WD was decades ago when an unpaved road in the desert dropped into a dry wash with deep loose sand.
I didn't air down because I didn't have an air compressor to air back up again. There was a long stretch of paved highway I would have had to drive on...
