I am contemplating the first ride and camp of the year on the weekend of September 23rd.

My plan would be to camp Friday night in the Nimblewell area. Get up Saturday and run old bucktown down then back up. Probably hike a bit around the trail heads at the top of old bucktown.

Maybe do some night riding around the nimblewell area.

Just bought Bronco yesterday. We have no experience off road. Whatā€™s an easy off road trail in the Georgia area for a beginner? Thanks in advance for your help.

Very easy and pretty at top: Calbeck in Calhoun. Itā€™s in the Johns Mountain WMA, forest road 955. Itā€™s gravel most of the way, then when you get to the top it opens up with dirt and nice views. I wouldnā€™t worry at all going up there alone. You could hike back if your battery dies or something. Terrain is not a concern. more of a concern will be the gravel thatā€™ll stick in those new wrangler tires and be thrown up onto your doors when you hit pavement. Mine did that for the first few hundred miles or so. after the first forest service road we drove on, my wife and I got out and plucked rocks from the tires. Also Iā€™m not sure which WMA land requires permit but I went ahead and bought a GA fishing permit just in case

I went to high school out in Dallas so can confidently say theres not much in terms of offroading (unless you want to go mudding but not my cup of tea). The WMA in either Calhoun (johns mountain) or Dallas (sheffield) offer very laid back nature driving on maintained roads.

I will say the views and scenery in North GA are far more appealing. I try to post my outings with some form of lead time. I plan to be out every other weekend camping and driving in the fall and will post those trips up for any to join in on.

The best piece of advice I can give is to download the maps of whatever area you are visitng to your phone before heading out.

Congrats and welcome @Slcdad9. Lots of great info already provided and like mentioned, I've used the Bronco Trail App, OnX and some others to find some easy trails / roads around Ga. Easy drive up to Lake Conasauga was an easy drive through the mountains with the bonus of a hike around the lake. You can get there from Elijay or Chatsworth. Also, one of our first trips we made was to Cache's Valley Rd. near Cherry Log, Ga. A couple of water crossings, with solid bottoms and some really nice scenery. I'm in Acworth, so it seems any time we want to venture off the beaten path, we first must drive an hour or more on the beaten path. :)

@rws I like that last sentence and itā€™s so true. Itā€™s a slog to get out of the city, so I leave early, but the rewards when I do are just hard for me to describe; basically back in my element. Heading up to Elijay next weekend for the ā€œBaconā€ festival; yep, to hang out with my best friendā€™s parents and their RV. They have a Wrangler, so weā€™re sure to head out to the woods at some point for sure. BACON! Yea!

@MadMan4BamaNATL We often wind up going in or around Elijay whenever we venture out. And I just became aware of the Elijay Bacon Fest and are making plans to be up there on that Sunday. :)

And as you mentioned, once you get out of town, and find those spots to enjoy, it's all worth it!

Just picked up a 23' WildTrak last Thursday and I've already ordered 35" ridge grapplers & Method 703's (will be selling take offs), Amp power step XL. I've also researched just about every winch bumper out there that doesn't block the front camera and ACC but haven't made a decision. Excited to get this rig dirty! Located in Cumming.

Not sure how well the videos actually turned out and managed to get my bronco in none of them. But great turnout today. We ran 14 vehicles primarily broncos (plus one braptor)

Managed to wear out my dog. Suffered one tire failure but nothing a quick tire plug and some air compressor provided by @MadMan4BamaNATL couldn't fix.

We'll be planning some future rides so keep an eye out.

@Born2Drive I personally get out about twice a month. There are a few others who are on a consistent schedule.

I have a good bit of travel in September but will be camping (and trail riding) as much as possible between October and December.

Keep an eye out for posts as I typically will give some form of lead time.

Going out to Stony Lonesome OHV Park in Alabama tomorrow if anyone is interested in joining. Count on a full day trip, it's a few hours away. This will be a little more challenging stuff. Looks like @Rspayde has a ride planned as well that's probably less stressful šŸ˜

Should be a blast, let me know if interested

Is the owner of the white Bronco that lives off Houze road in Alpharetta in here? If so, stop driving around with your bright as hell white fogs on all the time. Those are for fog, and white is pretty useless for that anyway... Lol

I wouldn't say anything if it weren't the third or fourth time I saw you with them on at 5 in the afternoon.

Had a client to visit up near Fort Payne, AL. Decided to head out early and take the opportunity to run some trails through the Little River Canyon reserve area.

Went down trail 4 and 5. Trail 5 had a nice river crossing followed up by a decent hill climb.

Lots of very rutted out trails. Will definitely need to come back out with some support. Probably more of a weekend of overnight camp type of trip.

Also photo of the waterfall just off the highway maybe 5 minutes from the trail head.

This was roughly 1:30 to 1:45 from my front door in woodstock. Went straight out through rome/cedartown. Depending on traffic I would not imagine it taking much longer from anything along 75 down to the 85 interchange. About 30 minutes for the trek was spent driving down 92 to 75.

Very tight trails so keep that in mind if you do venture out with a group. Not very many spots to pull over so it could be a long day of backing up or waiting for oncoming traffic to back up.

Anybody within an hour north of the perimeter have the ability to add keyless keypad or have 2534 programming interface? I'm willing to pay a good rate just don't want to pay the dealer $380 for 20 minutes of labor.

That's correct. Jim Tidwell in Kennesaw and Hardy Family in Dallas were both in the $300-$400 range. Actually just got off the phone with Pugmire Ford in Cartersville and they are going to do it for $50. That's more than reasonable for me. Scheduled an appointment for this week and they said I can wait there, should take an hour or less. This is exactly what I was looking for. Technically you don't have to have a dealer do it. There's actually a great video linked on this site that shows you how to do it step by step BUT you have to have a 2534 programming interface which are very expensive and access to FDRS software (which you can buy 3 day access for $50). I just can't justify buying the program interface.

@Bushwhacker please update us with your experience at pugmire. I bought from a friend at Tidwell which was a great experience, but I have had a couple oil changes done there and havenā€™t been impressed with their service department. Iā€™d love to try somewhere else for some recall and warranty work

Got it done at Pugmire Ford in Cartersville today. I actually attached it myself inside the gas door. They did the programming. Bad part they charges me $120. Had it there just under an hour. Good part, I was in and out just under an hour. All in all I'm okay with it.

Is anyone around the city running 17x8.5 0 offset wheels with 35s? I have some wheels in this configuration on order but I have only seen them in pictures online. I am concerned they may be too aggressive for me. If anyone has this setup and is willing to meet up let me know!

All I did was replace the rubber cylinders that push against the tire from the tailgate. Stock carrier and the RC tailgate support (don't think this actually does much)

Dmk08
Dmk08
@DREWR13 Yep. Essentially if I just bolt the 0 offset up to my current carrier it's going to stick out 2" further than it is today which will block a portion of my rear view camera and put extra load on the gate. It looks like adding the rubber stoppers will fix the load issues.

@MyATV We can always pivot the after plans if need be depending on when we get off the trail. The brewery in Jasper is pretty good as well and a little further south. Most of the small breweries have some sort of set up for nearby restaurants to deliver. The trail essentially spits you out north of 52 so getting places after is pretty easy.

Was accessible on yesterday. Was kind of interesting that me and a few others were basically wheeling in the back of peopleā€™s houses. I bet the noise gets bad sometimes back there. Was respectful and didnā€™t run too fast in hopes of not disturbing the trail too much. Crazy how tight that one lane is also. Wouldnā€™t want to go with a big group. Was nice though.

Tore my soft top and damaged the frame last week. Dealer is quoting me $16,000+ for new frame and canvas which includes $2200 in labor. That is outrageous for a product that is meant to be removed and installed by the owner. It is also highway robbery considering I can buy an aftermarket top for around $2500.

Anyone near Atlanta (4hr drive) selling an OEM soft top? Thanks.

I am dropping my brother off to fish at the chattooga east of Clayton around 8am, then Iā€™ll be off to hit some trails. My tentative plan is to do the first leg of the ga traverse starting at Burrells ford. Sarahā€™s creek is over that way too so I may try that as well.

Took a little day trip from Chattanooga yesterday down to Blue Ridge and wanted to hit up a few trails while I was down that way. I saw about 5 other 6G Broncos in downtown Blue Ridge, but after we ate we hit up a couple trails on the Bronco Trail app (which I could not get to work once we were on the trails). Hit West Skeenah Road and Weeks Creek Road. I have no clue how they rate these on the app, but Weeks Creek is a 1-Easy and West Skeenah is a 3-Difficult. In my opinion, they were both on the easy side and very similar. They weren't particularly dry, either, after the storms that came through on Saturday and Sunday. They were fun to ride, but anyone know why they would consider West Skeenah a 3-Difficult?

I also hit up a forest road not on the map called Bush Head Gap Road, which I thought was the most fun. It was a bit tight, but a fun little ride. It is an out and back and very close to Cashes Valley Road, so we went ahead and took a ride on that as well. All in all a great day and a great 4th!

The difficulty ratings on the app are worthless.

There are some 3s that are 1s and some 3s that are super difficult.

Like old bucktown is a 3 which is probably a fair rating but then Beasley Knob is also a 3. The later is a differently beast entirely.
