Anyone interested in going to Wharton State forest in south jersey in a week or two? I haven't been, but I'd really like to do something off road before Christmas.

I may be up for a ride.. never been to Wharton before so not clear what to expect. PA is starting to get cold so I think I'm done with going out there till temps go the other direction.

I was thinking of going on the 15th, but my schedule has changed and that no longer works.

@JBMontclair and @Gtrekker can we try for Sunday the 19th Wharton state park? Weather right now is partly sunny, 24% chance of rain.

Gonna have to check the calendar when I get home..

I should be able to do the 19th. Question about Wharton.. should we air down for it and if so do we need to bring a compressor to air up again?

@JBMontclair Between the two of us, you have (and I'm serious) more off roading expereince. The website I found says this, "the miles of trails within the park that are open to wheelers (using existing trails cut by the forest service for access and to fight fires). The size of the park and the variety of trails means that you have areas where you will see no one else and can have a relatively private experience enjoying nature.

For off-roading enthusiasts, while lacking in mountain-terrains, there are many levels and varieties of challenges which can not be fully accessed without a 4-wheel drive vehicle. This includes deep sand, flooded sections of trails during wet seasons, steep banks and deep gullies or crevices; and you are always surrounded by protected sections of nature's creation that are almost as they were when first seen by man."

I'd say no airing down necessary, but I'll bring a battery operated bicylce pump just in case. I do also have a couple nylon straps in case one of us gets stuck.

@Perfect-Beast-2 .... Sounds definitely doable, probably a lot of sand and scrub pines. No worries, it's a trail and just good to get it out there... I'm in for another time, that Sunday I wont be back in time.

Wharton State Park Motorized Access plan. There are two maps on last page. Links in the text don't work

Batona Trail (Not for Vehicles, but it shows "sand/gravel" roads.)

@Perfect-Beast-2 as to the maps... Try downloading the app maprika on your phone. It has the Wharton motorized access plan (MAP) map if you search and download it. When you are physically there it will show your gps location. That app is recommended by rausch and aoaa for their trail maps . Only isue is it is not carplay so you gotta watch your phone itself. Gaia and OnX likely have trails but I don't have a subscription as they don't seem as useful to where I've been. Fyi OnX recently got applecarplay and I did set up a trial sub when I went to aoaa and it worked but it was all follow the leader for me so really all it did was to give me some orientation as to where on there property I was.

@Gtrekker according to website Atsion office is closed November-March. Did you see a ranger?
Gtrekker
Gtrekker
@Perfect-Beast-2 ... It was a fairly large facility, two buildings. Yes, closed and no one around or on the trails.

Side note for those looking to join the is ride. Ive found it invaluable to use gmrs radios to keep the group together. I have a set of two so I can lend one.. but if nyone else has a set to do same or yor looking to give your rig a gift I'd recommend getting a cheap highly rated walkie style radio
