Hey All, I wanted to get other Michiganders opinions on the soft top. Mainly, would you consider switching to one? I am in a bind here as I am down to one vehicle in the family for the last few months. My concern is if I hold out for hard top, I could be looking at Spring of next year.

My concerns for the soft top are:
1) Security - I live in SE MI and we all know we have alot of assholes around here. The car will be kept in a garage most days. This also includes camping, We lock alot of stuff in a car when camping and I feel like its a risk to have one up north. Thinking more while hiking and away from campsite.
2) Weather - This state is rainy and cold alot of the year. Not to mention humid in the summer. Worried on the insulation properties
3) Hard-Top as a Part - Not only will it be hard to get, but its going to be expensive. Not to mention, we may not have an OEM or 3rd party option until at least 2023.

Things that make me say why not:
1) I need a car by Jan-Feb
2)I like safari top style with the back windows out
3) I was gonna run topless most of the summer anyway

Build is BD, Mid, Tow, in A51.

I switched to soft top in July. I was originally ordering a MOD top, and no way I am going to wait until 2023 for a Bronco, so I will buy the MOD top when its available. PS. I hate HATE the MIC top...just my personal opinion/taste. So going that route was never an option.

The switch to soft top was easier for me after I decided to keep my F-150, so the Bronco will be parked in the winter or in bad weather.

My only issue with a soft top was defrost in the winter. The windows took forever or wouldn’t clear in certain conditions. Otherwise I liked it in the summer and tolerated it in the shoulder seasons (had dual tops).@McCracken

we love the soft top
as for your concerns
Security -if they want it they will get it - broken window
weather - think of the soft top as a big warm blanket, and the hard top as a cold piece of plastic

we have had no issues with our soft top -been 2 months and almost 3000 miles

Out of 5 jeeps I owned, 4 were soft tops. Had no issues using it year round. As far as security, if someone wants something bad enough out of your vehicle, they’re gonna get. I’d rather have them go through the top then blow out a window. Just my thoughts on it.

I've driven both the Hardtop and the Softtop and im just going to say im waiting for the hard top. the soft top is fine but I think we may need something sturdier for the winters. As a side note im on the west side so we do get harsher winters here

I wouldn’t worry about weather too much. Just take care of the windows when they get road salt on them as they have a tendency to dry out and fog. Also, if there’s a big snow and you’re not planning to drive it that day, be sure to brush it off the top so the extra weight doesn’t cause damage. Shouldn’t be a big deal if it’s the light stuff, but when it’s slushy outside and super heavy I wouldn’t want it to sit on there longer than it has to. As for security, if someone wants something in your vehicle, they’re going to get it. Maybe invest in the locking cargo bay?

If it were an option for a two door, I would have ordered mine that way!

I switched to soft top back in June. Main reason is I'm thinking modular black or body color top anyway which means 6 years so I didn't want to wait and figured I can do a couple years with just a soft top. Best case scenario is I love it and don't have to spend money on the hard top.

Oh wait...I mean everyone should stick with the hard top until I get mine, then switch over to soft top.

I was in a similar bind, had to get rid of my 150,000mi Grand Cherokee, since it would never be worth more than it is now, and I'm a 2 door base build not willing to go 4 door. I ended up buying a 2019 Ranger from my bronco dealer, had 15,000 on it, and the 4x4 package so i can start going off roading. Still have my bronco order, will sell the Ranger back to the dealer when Ford figured out the tops!
