First Edition Badges showing "obsolete"?

I'm considering applying PPF to my FE to keep that beautiful Blue paint looking good. The installer gave me 2 options:

• install film OVER the existing decals and then trim away the area covering the decals (he says he has done this on several Raptors with excellent results)
• remove the decals, apply the film and then he can re-apply new decals on top if I would like to keep them (this is the better option except for added cost)

So I had my parts department look up the FE decals and they are coming back as "Obsolete"! My truck is 1 week old... a little soon for parts to be discontinued. LOL. Doing some more research now.

I wonder if it's to deter people from fraudulent FE look-a-likes for auction? People not as passionate here as us, could easily fall for a Sas Lux Badlands with a change in grille, some decals, etc.

Is it possible to use a hair dryer or heat solution to carefully remove the existing decals and transfer them to a decal paper? That way the installer can re-apply them on top of the PPF

On reading the OP, I started thinking of “rice boys”, notorious for buying some low-end Honduh, and plastering it with badges proclaiming all sorts of high-level features and trims that it doesn't actually have. As far as I know, they just do so for stolen bragging rights.

Not 'til I saw your post did it even occur to me that one might misbadge a lower-trim Bronco as a First Edition, for the purpose of fraudulently trying to sell it as such for a higher price. I can easily see why Ford would want to discourage that.

It's difficult to arrange replacements only going to actual owners, since so many already sold theirs, and will continue to do so I imagine. What's to stop a person that already sold their FE for profit, to then try to sell replacement badges for profit. I dunno, I'm probably thinking to hard on this one, but people never cease to amaze.
