Hello! My store recently replaced a MIC 1.0 top for one of our customers, and part of the replacement process required us to cut up the old top panels. Would anyone be interested in seeing the inside of the MIC top?

Edit: Below are some pictures that I took of the MIC 1.0. After inspecting the top and seeing just how thin that outer shell is, I can see why the honeycomb structure of the top was showing through when exposed to extreme heat/moisture.

Thanks AJ for taking the time to do that.

Seems like a waste, even if the top isn't 100% perfect. I would suggest taking one and cutting it multiple times at slightly different angles and taking pictures in different places in the shop to use for future claims.

Also, can anyone confirm that these are actually NEW tops, and not just old tops with a new coat of primer on them?
Exact same thing kayak manufacturers require when one is returned under warranty.
I had to take a $1200 Jackson Cuda back to the outfitter I bought it from. They had to Sawzall it apart into pre-designated pieces and take pictures of the serial number plate beside one of the cuts (so the cut would be in frame of the pic).
It hurt to watch them do it, but that's how they handle it. Cut it up, throw it in the dumpster.

I've seen it done with diesel engines. No longer meet emissions standards, so if you buy a new engine the mfg requires you to smash a hole in the block of the old one and send pictures.

Weight. The core is essentially to give distance between the outer shell. The more separation between the top and bottom the greater the bending load they can carry.
For offroad use, does the lighter top positively impact and reduce the center of gravity and weight distribution? I am not an off-roader, so not sure.

For any use a lower center of gravity is beneficial.

I suspect most of the GVW issues are more about liability given the rollover potential of a short wheelbase high CG vehicle.

Still when and how do you know this is what happened..... all we know for sure is what the hardtop sticker says.... primer applied...
That’s the added plastic coating that Ford used miraculous turn mic 1.0 to the 2.0 version

For the people that are freaking out about these pictures....why? Ford told us EXACTLY what these pictures show from very early on, way before the first Bronco order was placed. I don't understand how anyone can see this pictures and be caught off guard, or mad that they're not made differently on their expensive Bronco......we've known what was in the tops the entire time. Were you all just hoping Ford was lying and they would magically produce a completely different top? The outrage over this is ridiculous.

I think Jeep should be working 24/7/365 with their supplier to develop and manufacture a reliable, aftermarket Jeep brand top for the Bronco. Holy shit that would be the ultimate flex...and we would all benefit.

You keep harping on your tired talking point of the cost of the vehicle.

Why?

Your point is very invalid and has been for some time. Here's all 6 generations of vehicles with MSRP comparison

https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...olution-styling-performance-size-price.11209/

And the evidence you're going to have to use your time machine and go back to 1978 for your argument to hold water.

https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...rformance-size-price.11209/page-5#post-411513

If you want to tart a vehicle up to have a transaction price 220% over the entry level MSRP, that's entirely your choice. But to somehow equate that to being overpriced then it's your purchasing choices which have made it overpriced.

As to the only part of your "statement" which isn't utter poppycock, I am not telling you what the top is or is not made from, nor am I telling you the engineering version Ford is using. I'm presenting some possible materials into consideration which might have been used.

I'll point out that an actual conversation about materials based on real-world facts and reality instead of the "what do my friends think about me?" urinal tape-measurement feelings you keep bringing up, is vastly more helpful.

Hey, I get it though, you need to tell your buddies you spent $62,000 on a mass-produced Ford. COOL!

My shocked face to see you defending Ford and the top and arguing with someone else about how they feel.

I honestly don’t even know why we are arguing. You are obviously very knowledgeable in the physics/science of this top.

I am strictly speaking from the perspective of the end consumer. Yes, this vehicle price may be reasonable and not something to brag about. However, it is a stretch for me, and I (right or wrong) expect more from my ‘lay person’ point of view.

As I was taught early on, perception is reality, and the perception of seeing a core of cardboard with the thinnest possible coating frustrates me.

Either you like to argue, find me to be a simpleton or work for Webasto, lets just go our separate ways.

Peace.
Just ignore him, defending Ford and arguing with others about defending Ford is the only thing he does here. Mike Levine could drop a turd in his cereal and he would spin it that Ford just wanted to add some extra vitamins to his diet while he waits for his Bronco.
