I’m thinking of going with the mic with the black Bronco. Maybe change to an aftermarket painted one if I’m not lovin the look.
That's what I'm going to do. I ordered a carbonized gray Wildtrak hoping the hard top is a fairly close color match to the body but if I don't like it I'll get a body colored one when they are available and sell the other one to someone that wants one.

That sounds like a good plan Bronconagurski! Best of luck to you!

The painted hard top was never just a painted MIC. Windows are removable and the top panels are different. They are also metal.
After all these reports of leaks and squeaks, you need ask yourself: Do you really want additional places for air and water leaks and squeaking?

When will people learn:
1) Ford has not and does not have the experience to make it better than Jeep.
2) The more removable top components there are, the more sources of noise and leaks available.
3) If you really want open air, swap out for the soft top and drop it while the weather is nice.

Reality: Mod top is not a fix, it is a painted, arguably better looking, cooler featured, bigger problem.

Internet apologies - went a little heavy there, and was not meant in a personal way, more a general warning to be realistic.

All the MIC 1.0 that was not destroyed and several early MIC 2.0 will likely become MIC 1.2.6 and 2.1.4 with the paint modification. I’m actually Looking forward to it. I’d take a cast off MIC too but I think I’m still missing the Bronco piece.
Different material, different panels. Different top removal configurations. That's why I first ordered tge dual too option. Painted roof was supposed to allow removal of mid section while leaving front seat cover in place, or so I recall.

I would take a single piece hardtop from Ford for winter if they offered one.

Just an FYI, the modular painted roof was confirmed to be a metal roof design. Completely separate product line from the current hard top.
is there a link for this confirmation of a metal mod roof? that's going to be more of a challenge for one person to remove for the open air experience

IF they got their act together, it would be relatively simple for Ford to just stamp out roofs, weld on some sides and provide an all unique, painted roof. Less material than on a Flex of Expedition

I really wanted a modular top in the worst way, to the point I was willing to wait until MY23. But we share the same thoughts on whether Ford can pull it off. So I switched to MIC and have a production date of December 13th.

You are 100% correct.
