With the end of the MY21 season right around the corner, this reminds me of the 64 1/2 Mustang.

Why aren't we calling all first year Broncos 21 1/2?

because the 64.5 mustang isn't real. It's a made up term. There are no 64 mustangs, only early 65s. If you were going for a similar naming scheme, you would only call those already in production 21.5 if there was no model year 21 and everyone was driving around in early 22s currrently

I stopped doing the .5 thing with age when I was 7. If there was a valid reason to, such as the Bronco began manufacturing back in January, and they made changes in June, while still remain a ‘21, then there might be a reason to.

Fair enough.

I thought the 64.5 Mustang was official.

It is a real thing. There is a cut off of VINs that were produced prior to additional accessories being available. Those are the '64 1/2 models. Recognized universally, even though they may be '65's on titles. No, I don't know what the cut off number is, but it is a real line in the sand for collectors...

Not officially but most understand it. Its an enthusiast's term to indicate several differences in features within the same model year (65) which ran from April of 64 until August of 65 (about 3 times as long as the 21 Bronco MY). There are 3 distinct "halves" in the 16 months of 65 Mustang btw; 64.5 several different engine options unavailable after Sept. 64, generator instead of an alternator, 65 which retained the Falcon instrument panel, and 65.5 which adopted the round gages as well as a GT option. It's interesting, but not official at all. I don't know of any production changes to the 21 Bronco that would be analogous bit maybe the MIC 1.0 and 2.0 but not sure enthusiasts will see it the same down the road or not. Some collectors tend to hate the term (half).

There has never been a mustang with a 1964 title. ALL first year mustangs-regardless of production date or equipment-are 1965s. The first Broncos were available in 1965 as 1966 titled vehicles, but they were not “ 19651/2” Broncos.

Pretty sure the designation will not be needed in this case. '21's will be rare, since they will not be titled as 22's. The discontinued colors will be albatrosses. Eventually collectable, but not in my lifetime. I'm old. Yes, my wife picked out an albatross color, AMB. Just hope mine gets built, 11/29 build week...
