…Fold Down Windshield. So after hearing what seems to be the biggest knock on the Bronco and the ultimate reason to not purchase a Bronco, I thought I would actually try driving around with the windshield down. I’ve only seen this done on the military CJ2 like my uncle drives. I’ll admit, it really is fun to drive and there are a lot of stares. Is it all that? No. Is it worth bringing up as an advantage over the Bronco? No. Again, I’ve never seen anyone in my life drive a modern Jeep with it down, but it is fun!

I never understood the need for this on a modern vehicle. Sure, I bet driving through the trails, especially at slower speeds, it might be fine. But outside that, no thanks. I’d much rather have a fixed windshield.

Now if they made a roll-down rear window, I’d be all for that!

This sounds like a less is more post. Let’s just face the facts, even if it’s totally useless, 1 more feature is 1 more feature.

It was great in my CJ-7. I've tried doing it with a more modern Wrangler and it is just a hassle to do. If it weren't so annoying to do (dozen or so bolts) then more folks would do it. For comparison - 2 big thumbscrews on the CJ-7.

🤷

So it’s a military relic from when a soldier needed to be able to fire his weapon at any angle? Maybe still useful for hunting or in 3rd world countries, but I think the Bronco Mod Top gunner’s hatch will be better.

Who told you it’s the biggest “knock” on the Bronco? I have not heard one single person on here or anywhere say they wish it had that. Not one.
Calm down over there! Maybe you should read some comparison reviews. I’ve seen it mentioned as a miss for the bronco in a number of articles.

it's a silly "feature" on the Jeep, tradition alive from way back when these were tiny and packed in crates for IKEA style final assembly upon arrival. I like the Wrangler and would have one if the reveal had not shown up, but I would never even think about folding the windshield down. I've also never seen a Jeep with it folded down driving around. Why would one do that aside of when driving really slow, and then the effort doesn't seem worth the reward. I won't miss it at all and I very much doubt many others do. Never heard the 'it folds down' option as some major reason why someone owns a Wrangler. Not once, and I've been reading the JL forum for quite some time.

I have owned 4 CJs and have always used em windshield down. Its fun and I love it never over 35 or so though. Around town is fun, especially in a CJ5 with a 360 V8 and a manual. Wheeling off road is even more fun and I personally feel the real reason is for the mud. In mud having a windshield just makes it impossible to see and you have to scraped the mud off with a ice scraper every 15 mins. Having it down allows you to drive without hanging out the door. Here is a photographic example of proper jeeping. This being said I am not heart broken that the bronco has a fixed window. As someone said the thumbscrews was easy, A bunch of bolts and junk not so much. If I cant fold it while driving, I dont want it.

most places it is illegal to drive on public roads without a windshield. the reason for the fold down function was to keep the glass from shattering in the soldier's face after being struck by bullets or or blast concussion. considering military jeeps rarely operated above 50 mph in combat situations folded down was doable...

I did that once with my JLU, going slow (like 20mph) within my local streets with my daughter. It was kind of fun.
