Yep, Willys and FORD,Ford designed the original Jeep. They worked together to build it.
Loosely I think they will claim that the Bronco started with the GPW.

However, the iconic grille is all Ford. It was faster to stamp the grill than use the welded bars from Willy.Bantam and Willys designed the original Jeep. Ford built them because the government didn't think Willys could keep up with production

they called it and (as well as the Scout) 4x4 utility vehicle. Because it was not a family friendly vehicle.
the bronco call it a 4x4 Sports car. Or go anywhere vehicle. with Bucket seats, heater radio, power whippers A hard top. Things to make the vehicle livable.
it started the suv trend.... the official term ”SUV” didn’t start till 1974 with the Cherokee. But was soon adopted by everyone including the bronco that was out for 9 years prior.
