A lot of folks don't realize how generic "jeep" was for quite a while. Heck, the J in FJ40 is for lower-case j jeep!

I don't see Jeep,,,, except the whole 4 door craze. It looks like an EB, which of course was always a copy of the International Scout.

I don't see the big deal. Jeep has had lots of competition in the past, besides the FJ Cruiser. There was the Suzuki Samurai and the Isuzu Rodeo Sport. Jeep has dominated the market, but it's not like it's been the only one.

Loosely I think they will claim that the Bronco started with the GPW.
But I love the Scout. My grandfather had one with Hydraulic Shifting.

they called it and (as well as the Scout) 4x4 utility vehicle. Because it was not a family friendly vehicle.

the bronco call it a 4x4 Sports car. Or go anywhere vehicle. with Bucket seats, heater radio, power whippers A hard top. Things to make the vehicle livable.

it started the suv trend.... the official term ”SUV” didn’t start till 1974 with the Cherokee. But was soon adopted by everyone including the bronco that was out for 9 years prior.

Bantam and Willys designed the original Jeep. Ford built them because the government didn't think Willys could keep up with production

However, the iconic grille is all Ford. It was faster to stamp the grill than use the welded bars from Willy.

The Scout was always more civilized than the Jeep and was marketed as such. It was for the businessman M-F who wanted to get away on the weekends. My '63 has a heater, bucket seats, radio & hydraulic powered windshield wipers,,, years before the Bronco. Don't get me wrong, the Bronco was definitely more refined, but also came out in '66 vs '61.
