So Ford is basically obliterating dealer allocations, right?

In a way, no one is actually being pushed back or denied a build, since they are still building retail orders first when they can… if you get skipped because they don’t have the parts, and are back in the running next month, the eventual outcome is exactly the same whether you were skipped for another retail order or a stock order.
exactly!
Don't know why people get all twisted, there won't be fully loaded Badsquatch dealer stock (the odd sorta cancellation aside) and it makes total sense. Ford can't just send everybody home because part X is missing if they can build others with part Y. Dealers might not even get much of a choice in what gets built. But if your build can not be built others will be, just like it is now. They're just adding extra ones that are not based on reservation, to keep things rolling. I'm fine with that. Might even get to test drive some other trims before mine shows up.

A typical medium size dealership has lets say 120 allocations and 400 orders.
(I know I'm in the low 400s of my dealers 116 It's not a big dealership, but it's not the small one either)

If the breakdown is typical, the orders will be

100 2-Doors (25%)
240 4-door Hard (80% of 4-Door)
60 4-door Soft (20% of 4-door)

Webasto seems to be producing about 10% of required capacity.

So, 1st month of full production the dealership gets:
1 2-Door
2 4-door HT
17 4-door Soft top

2nd month and third they get the same.

4th month, same thing, only now, 8 of those soft tops are for dealer stock. Everyone willing to change their order to a 4-Door soft top has his.

At this point, since Ford is out of hard tops, so they can either build a softie for dealer stock, or build a Ranger for dealer stock. Probably an Outer Banks, because I suspect those have the most baked in profit.

Actually, Ford can mitigate the MIC top problem for 2 door orders by offering a Safari top for initial delivery, then a later delivery of the MIC top when production catches up to demand. I, for one would go for that. Not holding my breath though.

Here’s the scenario:
Zack's scenario is exactly the way I understand it. MAP workers gotta eat...so does Ford; this process facilitates that - without compromising the timing of your build.

AND...this might not be a slam-dunk....I don't see a lot of snow belt dealers wanting to have soft-top 4-doors on the lot sagging under 2feet of fresh powder.

First, I’m not with a dealership or Ford…. I think you may have me confused with another forum member who’s username rhymes with “ZackDanger”

Second, I don’t think there’s any weird craziness going on here. The scheduling hasn’t changed, the only thing that has changed is that Ford shared their plan for when a dealership doesn’t have enough buildable retail orders for a particular scheduling block.

Here’s the scenario:

Dealership A is getting 5 Broncos this month. Ford starts at the earliest timestamp and checks to see if they have the parts, if it does then the build gets scheduled, if not they move to the next earliest. They do this until they can find 5 retail orders.

The next month they do the same thing for the next 5, starting at the earliest and moving their way through again.

Now the third month, turns out that of allllll the retail orders placed, they only have the parts for three of them…

…under the system that Ford just announced, the remaining 2 allocated Broncos would be built as dealer stock with whatever parts they do have.

The dealership still gets their 5 Broncos that month to sell, and everyone who was next in line with a buildable order still gets their bronco, and anyone who didn’t have a buildable order still gets skipped.

In a way, no one is actually being pushed back or denied a build, since they are still building retail orders first when they can… if you get skipped because they don’t have the parts, and are back in the running next month, the eventual outcome is exactly the same whether you were skipped for another retail order or a stock order.
My apologies for the mixup, but thanks for taking the time to reply anyways.

I hope it happens that way. The only thing I would take issue with is that Ford would start with the earliest timestamp and if they have the parts, then the build gets scheduled.

I think what’s going on is the Ford computer is looking at what parts they have and building as many Broncos as they can with the parts they have available….practically regardless of timestamps. I have a first 10 minute reservation and a #1 allocation, but no VIN.

This is hard to explain, but say I am the next reservation in line….2dr, MIC, Lux, Sas, 2.7. Instead of using all those constrained items to make my one Bronco, I believe Ford looks at a Stock BB and takes the Sas pkg, then another BL stock but takes the Lux, then a Stock OB needs a MIC top, and a BD needs a 2.7….they were able to build 4 Broncos, all with much later timestamps instead of my one commodity-hogging Bronco. The results is 4 happy customers, 4 happy dealers and the guy with the earliest timestamp never knows the difference.

I say this because I’ve watched hundreds of builds with all the parts my build needed spread over all those builds. If they started at the timestamp, they could easily have scheduled my build, or an earlier timestamp build but that would have impacted several others.

Ford thinks I’m being greedy and uncompromising and allowed a computer algorithm to deviate from their original rules in order to maximize their profits. Business decisions were made.

Nothing I can do about it but wait or cancel at this point, so I wait, and I suppose I’ll wait for as long as it takes.

How is a Lexus GX460 a substitute for a Bronco? They are different class of vehicles with key functional differences. This is one of several reasons I don't care much about reservation holders getting priority. I'll gladly see folks jump the so called line, if they post off-road videos rather than trips to the coffee shop.
Do they both drive on the street? If so that's the only functionality I need. Neither will go off pavement and I am buying 100% for aesthetics. I'm not destroying a $50k+ vehicle off-road.

I will say this...I will be ROYALLY pissed when I see my exact order sitting on a fucking dealer lot with a markup and I get shafted to a 2022.
I feel the same way , I see it as that most people who placed a order won't see there Bronco tell sometime in 2022 because Ford dont really care if people stick with there order and bank that they won't because they make more money that way .

Your assessment is correct, however it is not because of the tops. It is working as Ford intended, a result of adding allocations. Allocations are looked at first, before timestamps.

Simplified example;
Dealer X has ten identical BL builds. They are all timestamped 7/15/20. Dealer Y has the same 10 identical BL builds, but timestamped 7/14/20. All twenty units are at the front of the timestamps at their respective dealer.

Ford goes to the next dealer in their allocation list (allocations count first), it is dealer X. They have parts to build 6 BL units. They pull them and build them (all timestamped 7/15/20 and four of the ten are SOL until Ford gets back to them for the next round of allocations). They move to the next dealer, dealer Y, they used up a critical commodity that week building 6 units for X and zero BL's are scheduled for Y even though all ten identical orders are timestamped the day before the 6 built for dealer X, all ten are SOL until the next round of allocations for that dealer.

There is no question allocations come first, if timestamps were first, it would negate the allocations as no dealer has more allocations than orders. They only way later timestamps would be filled at any dealer is if there were commodity restrictions for different builds. This was Ford spreading the Bronco's around geographically by a formula that they could set up to favor, in a general way, particular dealers, or disfavor certain dealers regardless of timestamps. The allocations are responsible for any builds with later timestamps usurping early timestamps. It is intentional and working as intended by Ford since long before they admitted tops were a problem.

Just a thought but has anyone considered Ford does not care about making 2 doors since the market demand is higher for 4 door mall crawlers? From all the builds I see it's clear that 2 doors aren't a priority at all. I've ordered a base 2 door with a V6 (it's hard to believe they can make 4 door bases but not 2 doors) they make the least money on my trim level and could care less to try to build it even tho they could

How many 2DR orders have you seen get scheduled before you? Most of the scheduled and delivered builds that I have seen are 4DR. I’m thinking the 2DR hardtop is the issue.

I’ve got a 2DR BaseSquatch on order and the lack of scheduled and/or delivered 2DR builds is a little worrying. That coupled with all the recent communication centered on 4DR models.

All that said, I don’t see hardtop dealer stock being a thing before I get my Bronco (especially 2DRs).

I would agree that Ford cares more about 4DR models. I think the large percentage of 2DR orders is a result of bringing back the Bronco name and getting the enthusiast crowd to order. After this initial wave, 4DRs will be the vast majority. With that in mind, I think Ford placed more money for tooling and production capacity for 4DRs.

At the end of the day, if you want a 2DR, you just have to wait for your build email. Once you get it though, the wait should be well worth it!

The explanation you give is totally believable. Believable, and it makes the most sense for Ford. Good luck as you wait. I have a very simple BB build and I have no VIN number or build date as well. I, too, plan to wait for as long as it takes.

I have seen a lot of two door builds ahead of mine…..watched them announced by happy customers in real time in this forum and the other. I believe they are running about 25-30% of builds last I heard, but at this point it’s irrelevant to me. I’m just waiting. At some point it will arrive at my dealership, they’ll call and want the rest of their money, and I will run like he’ll the next time I hear anything from Ford about reservations, or allocations or special orders. If it ain’t on the lot, they can sell it to someone else.

But.... MIC tops aren't the only commodity constraint.
So what if I compromise from what I actually wanted and switch to a soft top to avoid waiting until they eventually have MIC tops? But my order still can't be built because Sasquatch is also a constraint. Or the 2.7? It seems that unless I'm willing to change my order to get rid of all commodity constraints it won't actually help and dealer stock builds will still consume capacity slots ahead of my build.

Personally if I have to change my order that much I loose interest in the Bronco entirely. I spec'd the vehicle for the way I wanted to use it. I wanted a highly capable off-road stock vehicle. I understand I could get a Base and then spend $$$$ to have a shop modify it to something sort of like a squatched hardtop BL, well maybe not the 2.7. But that is not the Bronco experience I bought into last summer.
