It all depends on who you ask. If you ask me, I would say get as far out in the burbs as you can stand, Check out Corinth or Argyle. But I am an old Fart and I live in the woods of East Texas and my closest Neighbor is a 1/4 mile from me. My daughter lives 5 minutes from downtown Ft. Worth in an apartment 2br, 2bath for 1,300 a month by the way and she absolutely loves it. My step daughter lives in Pilot Point and works in Denton her commute is 40 minutes. I have lived here all my years and have been in one hail storm that actually damaged my car and it was mild. The summer heat will take some getting used to but I guess I am used to it. If you decide to stay and buy property, check around, property taxes are not as bad in some towns. Look up Babe's Chicken Dinner House, Southern comfort food that can't be beat!

Dallas/DFW is big... very big. Recommend you live close to where you'll be working, if possible, unless you like traffic/tolls. No state income tax, but property tax *more* than makes up for it. Also, beware that the cost of living has caught up to the relatively high wages. All told, other than the high cost of living, high housing prices, overcrowding, traffic, extreme property taxes, hail, heat and tornadoes... I suppose it's not a bad place to live.
High cost of living? Hate to tell you but your wrong.

"How North Texas cities compare against other metros for cost of living - Dallas Business Journal" https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/...Among North Texas cities, Dallas,41 out of 75.

Texas is a big state, so you’ll get used to long drives .

When you move to The Great State of Texas go see:

-Eat at the Grist Mill and dance at Gruene Hall
-Big Bend National Park
-Float the Guadalupe River
-South Padre Island
-Hike Guadalupe Peak- Highest point in Texas
-go to a Willie Nelson concert
-visit the Mcdonald observatory
-Listen to music in Lukenbach
-Palo Duro Canyon
-Davis Mountains
-learn how to 2-step and check out cowtown
-San antonio River Walk
-Caprock Canyon

y’all help me out!! There are a million things to do

When the electric power grid failed there was no power to many natgas pumping stations.
Sort of what happened in 1998, 2011, Harvey and now, see the pattern?
After each nat disaster recommendations are made for political cover and neatly filed away.

Get a gen and a big propane tank. Swimming pool would be handy also, still gotta flush.
I'm going to get estimates to compare the cost of running my natural gas piping to where I will mount my generator and also get estimates for a buried 500 gallon propane tank.

LBJ Grasslands is right up the road as well a lot of State Parks a little further west as well.

last time I checked there were 99 State Parks in Texas with just about 740,000 acres to explore.
And none of that open land is near Dallas. When I was researching the issue, it seemed to be closer to New Mexico than to DFW. And mostly barren, though the upper panhandle near Oklahoma looked visually interesting.

Michigan has 3.9 million acres of state forest.

Adirondack Park in NY is 6.1 million acres.

Considering the relative size of TX vs MI or NY, there’s nowhere to play in TX, especially northeastern TX.

Thanks! I will have to do some more research. My office is pretty far north, I am single, with no kids. Just excited to be making the change!
What city are you moving to? That will be add a lot to advice. Because what you think is far North someone that lives here might not thinking it's that far ... Trust me when you live here you will understand. Lol

...And just do a quick search for 4 wheelin in Texas...Tons of places to go wheelin. But, you have to get away from the city! Also, I am 54 and I have never waited in any abnormally long lines at any grocery store but I guess it all depends on what your used to. If a long line to you is maybe three people then yeah we have long lines.

And...With all due respect to others here, and not wanting this to turn into a pissing match, you can listen to people who have "visited Texas" or you can listen to someone who has lived here for 54 years!

He already answered that earlier in the thread.

I would suggest you also check the price on a dual fuel (natgas/ diesel) conversion if going natgas just to know.

You’re just wrong. Lived in Texas for 50 years and been all over the state LBJ Grasslands is 20k acres and less than an hour north of Dallas. There are many other places like Dinosaur Valley State Park which is not too far and Copper Breaks State Park which is very remote and around 3 hours west. New Mexico and Colorado are also can be driven to in one day

I grew up in Arlington Texas and recommend three country songs for your move. A country/bluegrass band in Texas called the Austin Lounge Lizards wrote a song titled “I’m going back to Dallas Texas to see if anything could be worse than loosing you”. I also recommend the Lubbock Texas band The Flatlanders song “Dallas” and lastly, the great Guy Clark wrote a song titled “Let him roll” about a whore in Dallas. These songs should be paired with a Shiner Bock beer, chicken fried steak with cream gravy and fried okra. Enjoy!

I second the getting out of the burbs suggestion if you don't mind the commute. I moved to Granbury from San Diego in October and absolutely love it. Small town feel, a couple blocks from a lake, and can be in Ft Worth in less than an hour.
And babes chicken is awesome.
