Trail turn assist worth while for an overland rig?

General debate question. I have off-roaded in a casual sense in the past. I plan on taking the Bronco on weekend to weeklong overlanding trips, initially with a club, and eventually once I have learned a little more about it, with friends.

I originally was going with the manual transmission for a multitude of reasons. Simplicity, fun, the crawler gear, etc.

However I changed to the automatic because of trail turn assist.

The question for debate is, how relevant is Trail turn assist for overlanding?

For those of you that have actual experience overlanding, would you give up the crawler gear/manual transmission for TTA and the automatic transmission?

Is TTA a neat trick for specific situations or a valuable asset you wouldn’t want to live without?

one often forgotten fact:

manual crawl ratio is 94.75:1
auto crawl ratio is 67.8:1

I got a 7 speed. Man Lands.
So, you would take the crawl ratio over trail turn assist for overlanding.

The automatic gets the consumer alot of cool ass perks. Enough to even make a purist question the stick decision.... And real advantages they are.... trail turn. And one pedal. Buttttttt one pedal is 2.7 only......

For myself I decided I'll be daily driving and weekend thrashing, so my everyday commute I 100% want stick. I love the manual experience and even in traffic don't mind the three pedal experience. The crawler gear is amazing. And a huge added value. I can also add a "fun lever" or dual fun levers to lock the rear tires the old-school way cheap. Think twin drift handles but one for each wheel, and there's trail turn assist. Traction is going to be off in hardcore wheeling anyway so the handles "shouldn't" piss off traction control , "in theory"

The only place I'd want an automatic is to make up for my inadequacy driving off-road. So I said no.

I also said no to mid package because of all the crap it adds. I only want the power outlet and seat heaters, so nope. Less driving "aids". I'm adding those facts for perspective in where my opinion is coming from.

Apples and oranges. Torque converter means you don't need as low for auto. In fact, you may get up to 2X torque at low speed so the effective auto crawl may be 135:1. As long as you don't overheat the trans.

Personally yes. I'm planning on 3 kids in the back and regional trips.

Kids will remember dad banging gears, more than me slamming her in drive.

10 speeds are both beastly and unstable from my reads.

Aren't the heated seats part of the Mid Pkg?

Correct, Sir.

I abandoned Mid Package because of all the driving aid crap, deemed it excessive for the gains. Again, I offered this intel to add personality to my opinion. I found badlands worth the costs, but I found Mid package muddled it's utilitarianism. I have waited for a rugged interior, "hardcore" production rig but without all the crap.

I’m only getting an automatic because my wife said so. If I had the choice between stick and TTA, I’d take the stick every time, every day.

You are correct, the crawler gear has an amazing amount of torque, But how often are you going to use it? It is like everything else on this forum, single mindset on just one aspect of the Bronco. Unless you are crawling a rock wall all the time it is a mute point. Once you try to come out of that gear you will lose momentum so no good for sand, mud, or anything you want increase your forward momentum.

I can think of at least one switch back in Colorado that I’d use it on! lol
Are it's initials "BBPR" and near Telluride? If so, we are of the same mind...

You'll never talk a stick guy out of a stick...

... it's just sucks watching them stall multiple times crossing obstacles, then tell you how awesome manuals are...

Exactly. The effective crawl ratio is better in that automatic...but it won’t stop people from repeating the numbers who have no idea that an auto is different than a manual. Basically double the auto crawl ratio, to get the effective crawl ratio.
