agreed, BN definitely stepped on their own appendage so they earned what they get, but the article has no love for BN at all
makes me wonder 2 things

1 - if Jackson Comms or BN have a bit of history alienating others

2 - why does Ford leverage Jackson? this makes no sense to me, especially when we are this far along and there really isn't a whole lot of professional Ford supplied marketing material. most of the high quality images have come out of BN, but even then are not what I would call professional. if I was working at Ford on the marketing team I'd be pushing for a different approach. Stig has done far more for Bronco imaging & marketing through this site than BN and Ford has done
1. I'm wondering if because of BN so tightly controlling content, the "traditional" media is annoyed in similar ways we are. Basically the only real conduit for Bronco news is through BN... so if BN is being "exclusive" on Instagram, that's no content left for sites like the linked article.

2. Ford has a marketing team, but it's more or less set up to follow the old model. I can 100% see Ford making the decision to outsource social media marketing.... I'd much rather pay another company to do what they're already good at than pivot my own organization and/or build something from scratch.

The rub though it I honestly think Jackson over promised. This seemed obvious in the early days but has improved markedly. Those early videos were a disaster, with the poor talent provided no script, mismatched A and B roll... and final products that had to be corrected after the fact.

Having dabbled myself, I really got the vibe that Ford said "and also we're looking for video content with interviews and product demonstrations" and Jackson sales said "oh... pfff... sure... totally.... how hard could that be?!"

Like I said, BN has really stepped up recently with their video content getting much better. Better editing, better talent... They're still relying on them to riff and improvise... but at least the final cuts are better. Haven't seen a retraction or edit in a while.

I would have felt much better if BN would have said "a former overzealous legal representative". :)

But, we know in today's world things have changed. It's not "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again". It's "at first you don't succeed we'll promote cha"........

I agree. I kind of think their slow leak approach was to build the desire for more info from the public. Give a 10 second video clip or obscure picture just enough to tick you off but then have you clamoring for more.

It's hard to argue the other side at this point. There is no coherent argument that this was a well orchestrated or effective move by BN, so the column seems to be a valid opinion, not biased.
I think it's a totally valid opinion... I was just surprised it just didn't offer any sort of counter-point.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning BN's behavior... I just think they have an argument and I was surprised that it was omitted... even to serve as fodder for the position this piece was taking.

Pretty sure ford simply hired a PR firm and have a contract. I doubt that contract states that the PR firm should be more focused on self-promotion than Bronco promotion, and I doubt the contract gets renewed, whenever it ends.

So either another PR firm takes over BN or BN dies. I bet BN dies after the contract of exclusivity ends, leaving the free and open forums to themselves.

BN simply can't compete once Broncos hit the streets and we can make our own videos and tutorials, and organize our own meetups. The exclusivity they have with Ford is the only selling point to the site at the moment.

I can't wait to show you all how to create a simple rope pully system to remove your hardtops in your garage.

Somebody over at Ford probably read yesterday's comment (from someone on this site, can't remember which member but they were spot-on) about what a moronic marketing move it was to demand all the free advertising they were getting from this site be removed. Honestly, how many clicks do you think they were getting on that content from their site versus all the clicks they were getting from this one? Just idiotic.

This reminds me of the "dust up" last year between the outdoor clothing and gear company Backcountry and a lot of other businesses. Backcountry demanded that every company with the word "backcountry" in it change their name and pay restitutions. Boy did that ever blow up in their faces. If memory serves, some people lost their jobs over that one. I believe the lawyers were let go and maybe even sued, and the CEO was replaced. Don't quote me on that though - it was a while ago. I do know for sure that a lot of people boycotted their products over it.

This seems highly dubious considering the way BN keeps acting toward the very people they're supposed to appeal to.

It wasn't specifically mentioned in the article, but as bad as Jackson Dawson Communications slammed their dick in the door yesterday, I'm wondering if Ford also outsourced Bronco interior color selections to them as well?

I wouldn't be surprised if the deal BN entered into with Ford said that BN promised to handle all of the social media marketing, and will generate a ton of buzz and shares and stuff, in turn for being able to retain whatever profits they generate from their paywall BN model.

BN is basically a subcontractor that is more or less free to do what they want, and have some personal interests that interfere with Ford's overall mission at times like this... And mama Ford is always gonna win if BN wants that sweet sweet Ford money.
