Hi all, HELP! i'm going in for my order appt this afternoon and just want to be fully prepped.
I was told i'm #37 of my dealers reservation list and they have 35 allotted so i'm hoping a couple have dropped out already.
I'm looking at an Outer Banks 4dr in either AMB or Area51 (can't decide?!), lux package, and leaning towards Squatch. Torn between just going squatch or not and just adding 33s afterwards.

Can I expect to be at or below MSRP all said and done (Taxes, fees, everything?) Really hoping so but not really sure from what I'm reading?

I'm willing to put a deposit down but only if it's refundable in writing, i'm concerned with when these will actually be delivered and if i'm moved to a MY22 I'd probably want to change colors to whatever the green option is going to be, I assume that would be allowed?

Any other tips or pointers for talking with my dealer today?

You haven't had this conversation yet? Why have you waited? You could have had the pricing conversation and changed dealers months ago if the pricing wasn't to your liking.

This.... Most of us have discussed pricing with our dealers long ago. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers...

Nope, i haven't had any discussions on pricing whatsoever... I reached out to them in December because I hadn't heard anything since making the reservation and they said orders would open in January and then just reached out to me last week to get this appt setup and thats really been my only contact. I did not know I could even discuss pricing over the past few months... so guess i'm at square 1... what should I be going in with? :)

You're right on the edge... so there's no way to know when you'll receive your Bronco... a few more people who don't convert, and you can expect MY21.... a few commodity/part constraints... you'll be pushed later.

Also, the 35 your dealer was quoted is just an estimate. That number will change after March when all the conversions are entered and Ford does the actual allocation calculations.

I'm looking at an Outer Banks 4dr in either AMB or Area51 (can't decide?!), lux package, and leaning towards Squatch. Torn between just going squatch or not and just adding 33s afterwards.
Adding 33" tires to the OB should probably be fine, but remember that the BL, with 33's, have a higher suspension. I bet they'll fit on your OB, but you may have to unbolt a pair of the crash protection bars... and it will definitely look more stuffed than the BL rig.

Can I expect to be at or below MSRP all said and done (Taxes, fees, everything?) Really hoping so but not really sure from what I'm reading?
This is 100% percent on your dealer and what they are going to charge you / what you negotiate. If you negotiate below MSRP... you could come in at MSRP assuming your taxes and fees aren't larger than that. But what's your taxes and fees like in your local jurisdiction?

And don't forget "documentation fees" which is an extra cost the dealer charges to process the paperwork, etc. There is a huge range of this because some states cap it, while others don't and dealerships use it to pad their profits even more. (I've seen it range from $100 to almost $2,000) Since it is set by the dealer, it is most likely negotiable... though there may be local laws at play.

I imagine that just across the forum there will be differences easily upwards of 10% for comparable builds when it comes to what people end up paying in the end after all expense are factored in.

You should, at order time, have *in writing* what your price is expected to be. There should be no surprises left when it comes time to pick up your bronco and sign the papers. Period.

The *only* catch is if your build slides into MY22... if and when that happens you should expect having to submit an updated order... your ranking will remain, but new options will be available, some may disappear, and there will probably be a price increase (though we're talking about a few hundred dollars to reflect inflation and commodity expense increases).

I'm willing to put a deposit down but only if it's refundable in writing, i'm concerned with when these will actually be delivered and if i'm moved to a MY22 I'd probably want to change colors to whatever the green option is going to be, I assume that would be allowed?
You can change your order, including pausing for a MY22, all the way up until a VIN is assigned and your "build is scheduled" to happen by Ford. That occurs about 2 weeks before the build is started.

I would also expect a refundable reservation. Non-refundable is for when someone orders something no one else would want, and the dealer doesn't want them to walk away and be stuck with a car they can't sell.

Refundable shows that you intend to buy, but if you lose a job or something, and have to walk away after the build is scheduled, they wont have any issue selling the Bronco... probably for more than you negotiate.

And that's reminds me... just as you are allowed to change your order, you can also cancel your order without consequence to you or the dealer all the way up until the build is scheduled.

Any other tips or pointers for talking with my dealer today?
Remember, your reservation is *yours*... that's *your* bronco... you can take that reservation to any dealer you want. Don't put up with a sleazy or uneasy Dealer experience. You can shop around.

And remember, you have two things the dealer wants... normally you have money and they have the car... but you have money *AND* the allocated Bronco. You can bring that reservation to another dealer and this one loses out on it. If they give you a hard time about price, citing "high demand" or some nonsense, that doesn't apply here. If you walk, they don't get to keep the bronco to sell to someone else for more money.

Oh!

And you have until mid March to submit an order to be considered for MY21 or change your dealer. If your reservation was made prior to Sept 18th. the dealer is incentivized to get your order in so it can be included towards their MY21 allocation.

But exactly when you submit your order between now and that March cutoff doesn't matter. Your reservation time stamp is what ranks you (not when the order is entered).

I say this because it means that you still have time to "walk" from your dealer and consider your options. If they try to play hardball with you today, remind them that they have time to reconsider your offer of price, and enter it... but if they aren't interested, you'll just take your reservation somewhere else that will.

Knowledge and a desire to get a market price is your key. You sound pretty passive with regards to buying this Bronco. So you probably should hope for the best and get lucky.

Ask them if they will honor the X-plan pricing even though you know that Bronco is not eligible for X-plan pricing.

Remember you still have 50+ days to change dealers and order from another dealer if you don't like the pricing that they will give you.

DON'T DISCUSS ORDERING AND SPECS OF YOUR ORDER, UNTIL YOU HAVE PRICING WORKED OUT

Thanks, this is helpful... when you say "DON'T DISCUSS ORDERING AND SPECS OF YOUR ORDER, UNTIL YOU HAVE PRICING WORKED OUT" does this mean I should discuss MSRP vs. Invoice, X-plan pricing etc. FIRST before talking about build details, options etc.? Just want to make sure I understand exactly what you mean by working out the pricing first...

@ZackDanger stop giving such good advice. This is exactly what I decided to do 6 months ago and now I'm seeing the Badlands trim on the lion's share of all builds.

I would urge everyone to stay away from BL.....it is by far the worst of all trims. It has major GWVR issues, the auto sway-bar disconnect is unproven, & let's not forget about those carpeted seat-backs! ?

ZackDanger, as usual for his posts gives you clear advice on how to think going in. You actually have more power in this situation than realized; we all do.

Although you haven't discussed price yet, be sure to during your appointment. Take a PDF copy of your build (can be saved to your phone and emailed to salesperson). Don't expect less than that price on the configurator website, but get assurance that it won't go higher.

You'll likely be called back in to sign paperwork and meet the finance guy to confirm whatever price is agreed, but this doesn't happen until your Bronco is about to be built.

I've ordered a number of BMWs since 2004; all of them actually. There is no way to quell the anxiety, but the dealership doesn't want to screw you and deal with the fallout, so be fair and firm and everyone will be happy in the end.

Yes, that’s what he means. Make sure you and dealer are aligned as to the pricing they will charge you when the Bronco arrives (MSRP, invoice, X plan, a percentage off of MSRP, are they charging you over MSRP , are they adding any mandatory ADM (Additonal dealer markup items like tint, rust proofing etc.)). Get this squared away before you give them the specs of your order.

Why do these all sound like: "Hey, I've got to perform heart surgery in an hour; should I have gone to medical school?"
My wife is an orthopedic surgeon. You'd be shocked how often she watches surgery videos on youtube in the morning before going to work.
