speaking of that, my 86 mustang 302 leaked oil soo much I never changed the oil over like 8 years, just kept putting more in. ?Old Broncos don't leak oil, they are just marking their territory.![]()
I must admit I was unaware of that.I just want to make sure that you know there are two different transfer cases being offered for the Bronco already.
An on-demand part time 4wd and a 4A “full-time” (ish) 4wd.
And this is what separates guys who really know vs. those who don't "I gots a tree-fiddy fowboat mane, 3quarter race cam, dubblehumps, elderbrock 8fiddy, and it'll jump a Coors can in 2nd!"After you ruin the performance with that giant carb, try a 480 CFM and you will be amazed at how much stronger the response becomes. Full disclosure, I was never an early Mustang fan, economy car underpinnings, they were everywhere for a couple years, then started to break and rust away, underperformed for the specs. Obviously in the minority, even without the nostalgia from those who never saw them used as transportation, just fully restored show cars, but they were terrible cars in the mid 60's and another fifty plus years of aging has not improved them any more than it has improved me. Many thought they were pretty, that was enough to sell them.
Not a fan of the big Mustangs of the early 70's either. Heavy pigs, even with the rapid rusting making speed holes in the body. Had a buddy with a 2.3 Mustang II, 4-speed car. That didn't help my opinion (It may have been even worse than my other friends 1983? iron duke four cylinder (about 88 horses if I recall right) 4-speed Firebird). The Pontiac rusted through by the second Winter. The Omni based Charger....damn, cars sure did suck for a long time back then... The Fox body Mustangs I do have a soft spot for those. The goofy tiny 4.2l or whatever it was V8 was crap, but once they put the roller cams in the 302, it became a beacon of hope. Then Buick built the intercooled Regals and that was that. Old man rant done...for now. off to shake my fist at the squirrels and yell at the clouds!
Back in the old days it was common for guys to buy a buch of mismatched parts and end up with a slower ,poorly performing car.And this is what separates guys who really know vs. those who don't "I gots a tree-fiddy fowboat mane, 3quarter race cam, dubblehumps, elderbrock 8fiddy, and it'll jump a Coors can in 2nd!"
A common misconception for a long time is more, more, more cfm. And until I learned to tune and work on stuff correctly, it was always the biggest choppy cam, biggest carb, etc.
You have to match components to what you have.
for most street engines running 3-400hp a 600/650 is plenty and will offer better performance, economy (for what that's worth), usable powerband than bolting on an 850 QuickFuel just because you can. Or running 4" exhaust because you can. Or the wrong stall convertor which will kill all of your effort.
It's an art, for sure.
Still happens an awful lot these days.Back in the old days it was common for guys to buy a buch of mismatched parts and end up with a slower ,poorly performing car.
