Has anyone done this trail and can speak to it. Ever since I stumbled across is existence, I've been obsessed and it's my new goal for my Bronco. Seems like most literature for it is around motorcycles, so seeking 4x4 advice.

If you've done it, do you think Squatch is necessary? I'm pretty set on a BD stock mechanicals, but don't know if the front locker and higher water fording are something I'd need to do the trail.

Never did it, but from what I have read about it you probably don't need Sasquatch. Seems people on bikes, motorcycles, atv have done it. It's like 5000 miles so unless you have weeks to spare you can just certain parts of it. It's a mix of off road and on road driving. Look at YouTube to get an idea. There are tons of vids that show what it is like.

I just did a quick Google search and I found lots of videos from Jeeeps, 4-Runners, etc going across the TAT. I saw a whole bunch of articles too. Seems to be plenty out there.

I figure I'll do smaller sections near me while I slowly add to the rig. Hopefully by the time I'm done (are you ever done modding) I'll have enough goodwill, savings or both to take that much time.

check out this site. Has a lot of good info. I had heard about it, but never really looking into it. Looks pretty fun from looking at the YouTube vids. I would probably just do a part of it too.

Yeah, I've been so over that site. Very geared towards the navigation. Pretty cool that the whole trail was put together by one guy. Unfortunately since he's not a biker, less rig advice. I think the guys from TFL did some videos on it, but of course their trucks are all top specs.

if you click on the state maps it gives a description of that route in more detail. Since I am in CT I will probably look at the Atlantic Ocean Spur and do it the opposite way to starting in VA so I can end up NC and go to the outerbanks or just do it the regular way and start at outer banks. Would be fun to do it old school with actual maps

We did Iceland using just paper maps and odometer resets. Can be pretty fun. The whole roll chart idea is an interesting concept to me too.

It was developed by motorcycle enthusiasts so it tends to be spoken about in that context but it is all on legal "roads" so 4x4s can partake. Some of the folks on the BDR forums get pissy about there being trucks on "their" trail but whatever.

It's on my bucket list as well so I've done a bunch of reading on it. It is true overlanding in that you're going to find yourself on pavement and even rolling through towns at points. Travel in a group. Have and know how to use your recovery gear.

It's on my bucket list as well so I've done a bunch of reading on it. It is true overlanding in that you're going to find yourself on pavement and even rolling through towns at points. Travel in a group. Have and know how to use your recovery gear.

They can get pissy all they want. I am planning to do some with my bronco. There is pretty much nowhere in CT to do anything so I might as well take some road trips. Was planning on doing a ton of road trips anyways. Benefit of being a nurse. I can schedule my days so that I get 5-7 days off without using vacation time.

My first section will likely be from OBX to the NC/VA area near Damascus. Where my wife and I did part of the AT.

Winch, Traxx, gas, Jack. Check. You can bet I've eyed Trail Turn Assist for some of those Colorado switchbacks.

I've been very interested in this lately too. Agreed on the timeframes taking forever to do the whole thing. What's really cool is if you look at your state, there most likely is a Trans Trail that somebody has put together already (look at ADVrider.com). I've found two trails in Minnesota (TMAT), three in Michigan (TMWAT), two in Wisconsin(TWAT), a big loop in Iowa (TIT) and a loop in southern Missouri (TMOAT). I've got all the gpx files in my GAIA now and I'm currently looking at several "mini" Trans trips in surrounding states.

I’ve done the whole thing. Base bronco with no lockers is plenty. It’s more of an adventure than an exercise in technical off-roading.
