Common sense would tell me it wouldn't be possible to mount it transversely with either of those transmissions. Am I missing something? Honest question.

My take was transverse was typically for fwd, is there a transverse rwd/4x4 out there?

It's been awhile I looked but I believe FJ Cruiser v6 is mounted straight.

Well if it's RWD why wouldn't it be? I'm so confused about the point being made or asked about right now ha.
It's about serviceability, especially sparkplug accessibility. Just checked - The FJ Cruiser has front axle/differential and not a transaxle. So, straight mount on FJ makes sense.

Vw does/has used transverse engines in their AWD vehicles. But outside that I don’t know of any transverse applications that aren’t FWD. And really, the VW engines were designed for FWD use, just some models got upgraded to AWD.

Edit: Remembered Volvo did also have a transverse V8 AWD in the XC90 and S80 for awhile. But that was a good while ago.

Yep, even with awd they're still fwd dominate until slippage but supposedly could send it all to the back if needed. Brings up the question of what the Bronco's split will be and does it vary with which case/system is chosen.
