1. When Bronco was reintroduced in 2021, it was *the* hot new shiny thing and couldn't help but create competition for, and grab market share from, the Wrangler.

2. Over the next few years, as the Bronco was refined and caught even more people's attention and hype, it continued to steadily gain market share.

3. Now, 5 years later (at least year-over-year Q1 2025 to Q1 2026) it has lost some market share. 21% deficit head-to-head against Wrangler.

A. Has the 4Runner come out with a majorly better product? Is it just new/better/increased competition?

B. Has Jeep sharpened their game (lowered price, better quality, more incentives)? i.e., Addressed those areas where they were losing to Ford?

C. Is Ford slipping (cutting corners, reduced buyer incentives, too many QC issues, inventory backlog/ glut? etc.)?

D. Is this just a blip anomaly that will self-correct over to the next 3 quarters of the calendar year, or is the Bronco truly treading thin ice?

Some experts say it's just market saturation or higher interest rates. If so, why are 4Runner and Wrangler still increasing? Others say folks prefer cheaper vehicles. Hmm, ok, Bronco sales are down 4% but Sport models are up 10%.
There was high demand, for obvious reasons. Low supply made the situation more pronounced.

My post was 100% in jest. But it was what, 10 year between the last Gen 5 and first Gen 6 Broncos, and they did the body styling very well. Hell, I'm still shocked anyone bought the 3rd generation Mustangs. One of the ugliest sports cars in the history of man. And probably aliens, too.

I'd always wanted a Jeep until the Broncos came out. Hell, I still want an old CJ.

4Runner got momentum because it got updated after over a decade. People are interested, and it behaves better than a wrangler or bronco on the street. For those that care more about ā€˜yota clout and a quiet drive, they’ll pick a 4Runner over most others.

And for whatever reason, resale value. It’s seemingly becoming rarer to keep a vehicle until it is either uneconomical to repair (e.g., rust) or it gets totaled.

The market will always pick the new hotness over old and busted. And the 4Runner has a ton of options. Only downside is good luck ordering what you want. Toyota doesn’t work like Ford does.

At this point the Bronco isn’t offering what I would like, which is cool colors. I’ve got ruby red on something already, and velocity blue, while great is still just blue. Which everyone offers.

All the recalls and stop sales also don’t help.

4 Runners are proof that it's hard to make extreme practicality and good looks in one package.

That's quite plausible for the explanation of Bronco <--> 4Runner comparison ... and I get that Bronco being in a mini-slump and down 4% due to overstock, recalls, etc. .. but what's the deal when you compare Bronco <--> Wrangler and Jeep being +17%? šŸ¤”

Last I looked when I started shopping, wranglers were $20k less than the equivalent bronco. And there’s aftermarket support galore. I’m sure there were people swooped up in the off road fad post covid then got mad and sold their stuff when they couldn’t buy anything they wanted like wranglers.

Even Farley said they were unprepared for the sheer demand of all off road vehicles.

There’s a reason every truck has a tremor trim now.

Are we thinking Ford got fat and lazy ... e.g., average price of a Bronco is that much higher than a typical Wrangler now?

I get that 4Runner stole the "hot, new shiny thing" crown from Bronco which accounts for their slight lead in sales now over Bronco .... but if I've ever had another competitor that was besting me by 17% I'd wanna know WTF they're doing right that I'm doing wrong.

Let's hope FoMoCo is on that like stink on poop.

I'll confess when I was looking to buy my Bronco last Summer, the dearth of incentives coupled with my eventual sticker price was a little eye watering. But they saw me salivating and knew they had a live one on the line. 🫩

Not at all sorry that I bought my Bronco ... but I'll be a bit more judicious next time. I was coming off an accident where my previous vehicle was totaled and I needed wheels. I'll (hopefully) have the luxury of time on my side next time.

Yea, it’s hard getting sub 5% apr on a bronco. Especially now. Ford knows they’ll sell.

Jeep just offers more options at a lower price and finance rate. People do vote with their wallets.

Personally, I can wait. I’ve waited this long I can wait till October to order a real color. Unless my mustang gets totaled.

But I hear you on needing to buy out of necessity. It sucks, and I don’t wish that on anyone. The best car payment is no payment.
Been there done that several times now where I needed a vehicle because someone was too busy finger-diddling their phone instead of driving. It’s unreal that I’ve lost 3 vehicles because of other people sheer incompetence.

I was surprised at the real world cost of Wranglers now compared to back in 2023. I've been looking for a co-worker. Back at the end of 2025 you could find dozens of fully loaded Rubicon Xs ($73K sticker) for low 50s. Those are equivalent to fully loaded Badlands that sticker at $68K.
Wranglers USED to be $10K more expensive than the equivalent Bronco in the real world but Jeep cut prices and dealers started discounting and Ford reduce incentives. Watch Wrangler sales grow faster or exceed Broncos in 2026. Bronco marketshare will continue to decline because real world pricing is no longer that competitive.

Honestly, that doesn't bother me. Most of the "refreshes" that Ford's done I have not been high on. the SN95 mustang got worse, the S-197 mustang got worse, I can't speak to the 550 because I didn't like them out of the box enough to care how they were refreshed. I'd expect a bronco refresh to be a downgrade to be honest. I hope they surprise me, but I have my doubts. Ford seems kind of risk averse at the moment
IDK, I think Ford nailed the retro styling with the S197 (and the 6G Bronco). The S-197 pays tribute to the original without trying to look just like it. Since then, the performance of Mustangs has continued to improve inversely to its exterior style. But that's just one guy's opinion.

The new Bronco also did a great job capturing the original's style and attitude. I'm hoping Ford keeps the Bronco without any exterior changes for a while. It worked for Jeep for the last 20 years. If it aint't broke...

I think we're saying the same thing. The first block of S197s loooked great. I still own my 2008, and have no interest in getting rid of it. When the refreshed the body in 2010, it got worse. Still an S197, but not as good looking imo.

100% agree. The early S197s have the best retro style. The exterior updates starting in 2010 were not improvements. And the S550 change was a shame. That being said, regarding the S197s, the 13/14 models’ performance was so good, they had a great balance between retro looks and absolute tire shredding performance that I would be able to overlook the exterior changes. But, I'm with you and I’m also still keeping my 2008 GT500 (convertible).

from the performance standpoint the trope of Mustangs hitting curbs started with the Coyote powered Stangs. The entry price was nice enough that people who were not prepared for the "absolute tire shredding performance" as you put it, were able to get into them. The older 4.6 didn't have that problem, because it didn't have nearly the same level of performance.
