Has anyone else done this? What do you think? These aren’t from a 1966 Bronco as those are canted and won’t mount flat, instead they are from an unknown truck from 1973 (eBay). My wife says I need to paint the centers red but I’m inclined to leave as is. They have some patina and might look worse with fresh paint. I just couldn’t stand the uninteresting plastic letters that were there from the factory.

Looks good. I wouldn’t paint them red either - it’ll pop too much on the vehicle, IMO.

Those look great man.

If I was going to do anything, I might paint the raised outline part of each letter red to give a little pop, but that would be it. All red would be too much.

Nice work.

I’m not proud of my hack job but since you asked… The F didn’t require any drilling for the studs but the other letters did. These are almost 4in wide which is slightly wider than stock. I had the original back nuts for the letters but ended up JB welding them in with a layer of clear RTV behind them. They could be removed with a Dremel if needed.

That looks really good. I love the size of the letters which perfectly fill that space.

Personally I would prefer the center was red. Not a bright red but a darker cardinal or carnelian red. However, given their current original patina I would leave it alone since it looks good with your color Bronco.

I love it. Would be awesome if ford remade that with interchangeable lettering. Could do a chromed plastic so it would be cheaper. And could do different color insides.

Thanks, my wife suggested getting a small amount of wrap material and filling the centers to “try it out.” I may do that but I agree a darker red might look better than Stapler Red.

That looks sweet!
I vote with others and keep them as is with no paint.

Before I bought my HE I had a RR base squatch and did similar retro letters. In my opinion red letters looks better on red vehicles if you don’t want the red accent to pop.

I was really curious what vehicle the letters are from. You said 1973, which looks to be the 1973 Ford Econoline (1973 F100 used sans-serif letters):
