Installed the iag tailgate molle panel. 35 bucks easy peasy. Will serve as a base for Rotopax and or recovery tool mount.

I made a little more progress on my fuel/tool rack. All I need now is the fuel can/mount, but I'm having a mental block with rotopax prices. Anybody have experience with the Chinesium alternatives

CR 510, Marquette County. Followed a few of the β€œtruck trails” being semi-maintained in the winter. North to AAA Road. Beautiful winter countryside. Cold.

I'm honestly confused; what's the utility/advantage of these? To me they seem like nothing other than a "rock rail" appearance kit with them being body mounted (and only weighing around 30 pounds a piece). Any sort of decent hit on a rock I feel like would bend these right up into the body and potentially also damage the mounting locations.

Combine that with they are inferior to a running board to be used as a step.

What's the purpose other than giving an impression that you put a rock slider on your vehicle?

Not trying to throw shade, just trying to understand the appeal/utility of a product like this.
Well, you are kind of throwing shade. No other reason to write what you wrote since I said exactly the same thing you did in my post. Stay confused.

Was a simple question on what you hoped to get out of them?

To me it seems like a 60 pound penalty towards your GVWR for ~$300 that increases the chances of body damage on any moderate to difficult trail. For instance, I don't think you could use a hi-lift to jack on these safely by any means.

But if you like how it looks, you do you by all means! Will definitely help prevent door dings at the grocery store if nothing else!

It wasn't a simple question the way it was written. If you have to add, not trying to throw shade to a comment or statement you've already summed you might not should say it. If you get that urge again, best to click delete and move on.

Look, I apoligize if I touched a nerve as that wasn't my point.

I find a company like Barricade selling these direct for $419 and calling them a rock slider sketchy as can be personally. My concern honestly is as much that someone who doesn't know better buys something like this and goes and smashes one into their body and ends up doing a ton of damage to their car in a situation where they would have likely cleared in the first place if they didn't have anything on their rocker panel.

All good, but you could have led with that, haha. I agree with your concern and I understand. I'm going to drive my Bronco on the beach here in NC, which is why I bought a Wildtrak vs. a Badlands. I won't be bashing the rails on any rocks. I have an old TJ that I take in the woods. I like the way the rails look since they fully cover the pinch weld and they don't stick out too far. They aren't ideal as steps but they do work for those who need them if a handle is used to pull oneself into the vehicle. I do envy those like yourself who live out west. Seems like you can drive down a road, make a left and be off road. Lots of red clay mud and tree branch scratches around here.

Reglued my flare after hitting a tree on the last wheeling trip.

I thought the flare would hid the dents but apparently I was wrong.

Oh well it's the price to play the game. Definitely cringed putting a couple dents into a truck that is less than 2 years old and only 22k miles. Way different than my 01 Tacoma that I beat the fuck out of on the trails.

It's all good, they work fine for your use case then.

Don't underestimate the Arizona or Utah desert pinstriping effect. With a lot of trails dominated by side by sides out here these days, you need to be ready to eat a bunch of chapparrel and ironwood to get through in some cases.

Our access is amazing though. I easily have more than 50 great spots to go wheel within 2 hours of me, and way more within an easy weekend trip's distance. I lived in New York and Virginia till I was 28, so I get it! ;)

Anyway, take care and enjoy the rig.
