2024 Trailer Tow Kit (New Ford Accessory Part)

Warranty:
There should be one if the dealer does it.
None if you do it.

Do you have conferencing yourself to:
put the hitch in.
Put the trailer tow module in.
Brake controller in?

The wiring should be there, you can look up under the bumper and see it if it is or isn't installed.

Are you capable of installing it yourself, and have the tools?
If yes, do it yourself
If you don't let someone else do it.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I 100% can install the hitch myself. I've pulled panels and bumpers and even installed a 7-pin connector on a Ford Ranger. My concern would be getting it programmed, I have a feeling the dealer would charge me something comical for doing just that alone, though I see you can also do that yourself. Hearing that it would be under warranty if the dealer does it is swaying me that way.

Having something professionally done, really only means you paid someone to do it.

If you know how to do something, you'll do better work on something that you have a vested interest in, versus someone who does not.

Again, this is a time, knowledge, money thing..
You're the only one who can determine that for yourself.

I appreciate the response. 100% I know I can do the labor part. I have never used Forscan and only have a MacBook air....wondering if that will be an issue

I don't know, never used an Apple product.
Forscan of course! Is Windows based, I'm sure you can get a Windows on Apple through software emulation/ additional software.
For all honesty entry level Windows laptop are stupid cheap for what you need to work with.
You need the capability of changing a few digits on a car part. You're not looking for something to run "Crysis".

Everything's new if you haven't done it. But there's plenty of YouTube videos and documentation and tutorials.

For what it’s worth, I purchased a brand new WT a month ago that didn’t have a hitch in it.

I had the dealer do the install before taking delivery. Cost was $700 parts and install.

Cool feature I found is that you can test the trailer light function right from the Ford app. When you select the option, it will cycle through all the light functions, running lights, brakes, turn signals and backup lights. You don’t need two people (one to stand behind and observe, and one person in the vehicle). You just initiate the process in the app while selecting the option through the app.

When testing through the Ford app you must need to have a trailer hooked up. My Ford app doesn't show that option but I have not hooked up a trailer yet. I do have a unit that I bought on Amazon that checks the functionally of the connectors.

It’s the Trailer Light Check button on the home page of the app.

Yes you need to have something connected to the connector. I used my trailer hitch basket that has lights.

This is what I was mentioning earlier in the thread. I bought the factory hitch specifically for the light check and I never got it. I got the other 2 options and the Ford tech went through the install with me to show me that he and no one else in the dealership could explain why I couldn't get it. Wrote a letter to Ford and that went nowhere, so here I wait for expired warranty to do it with Forscan.

And to the OP, I sat with the tech when he did the programming and I wouldn't pay more than 70 bucks to have them program it. It literally took about 5 minutes or less to complete that part of the install.

Sorry for digging up an old thread. I just bought a 2024 Wildtrak and will need to install a hitch to tow my small tent trailer (which has brakes). My question is does it matter from a warranty perspective if I DIY the hitch or have the dealer do it?

My local dealer quoted me $800 plus parts for the install and I told them that was 4x the cost on the Ford website. They dropped the quote to $400 (still 2x what Fords website says). The service guy also said he wasn't sure that the 2024 had the wiring already ran to the back. They have 3 Broncos on the lot that have dealer-installed hitches, so already off to a shaky start with them.

I never did get the forescan yet. For now I just kept it with the three pin wiring and that's it. It's probably all I've ever going to tell anyway.

I have a 2024 and installed an aftermarket hitch assembly. pulled bumper etc. To complete still need 4/7 pin socket, control module , reprogram. Can the control module and 4/7 pin socket be purchased ?

I came to the dealer this morning after I had them order the kit to install on my '24 Outer Banks Sasquatch. They got an hour into and said they need to order a wiring harness because it's not prewired .... this will require two more hours of labor and the purchase of that harness. I told them to stop doing anything and put it back together.

Am I being straight lied to here? Straight from Ford and everything I'm reading here you need this single kit and it's already wired. I was only using them because I don't have a forscan.

2024 should be pre-wired.

Look under the rear bumper and you will see the connector.

It should be protected by a small metal enclosure, but you should be able to pull it out

That should look real similar to what's in my hand

As far as I know the factory kit is complete and nothing else should be required. Mine was installed weeks after I bought my Black Diamond and there were no extra charges.

Yeah I'm pretty pissed off about this and definitely letting them know they lost all of my mileage based service with them. They are either lying to charge some more hours and product cost or they aren't familiar enough with their product a year after it came out. I don't want to work with people like that when there are options out there.
