Holy shitballs, that thing took a beating!

Mine showed up last week, but I haven't assembled it yet… and now I'm low-key dreading it. I don't have a pic of the shipping box at the moment, but it looked like it had definitely seen better days. As for the actual TLP unit itself… it looked as good as new (which is good since, y'know… it's NEW) save for one minor scratch from when they were twisting the release lever into place during assembly. But I can absolutely live with that.

I'm hoping once it's cobbled together and I've swept any "extra" leftover parts under the rug, that it does the trick. I've had my Bronco since November of 2021, and have yet to properly strip her naked. I've had everything off except for that pesky rear clamshell. One thing I'm curious about is whether having the hardtop stored on the lift will create any permanent indentations in the Hothead Headliner I've got back there. I may put a towel buffer between the two or something, just in case.

Edited to add pics (the box doesn't look nearly as bad in comparison… and aside from cutting the packing tape, this is exactly how it arrived… hole through the top and all.)

Silicone washers are provided to separate moving parts and prevent cosmetic damage (I assume), but if you tighten the bolts even to “softly snug” status, the silicone washers immediately tear when you move the parts that are supposed to move. Probably because they‘re silicone (or silicone-like) thus soft and “grippy.” And easily torn, clearly.

To OP (and any other TLP user), pay close attention to this as you use the TLP. My slightly older version came with plain old plastic washers and not the thicker spacers you have, but you are accurately describing what I've also observed. The washer/spacer can hold the bolt in place as you move the arm up and down and have the effect of backing out the nut. In other words, the nut can eventually work its way off, which could lead to a disaster. I added a second nut as an ersatz "lock nut" but plan to eventually replace the bolts with longer hardware. Overall I'm happy with the performance of the TLP, but I do feel like the hardware is a bit chintzy and too short in some cases.

Ive had mine for about 3yrs or so. Dont remember my box being damaged. Instructions were online. I had no issues with anything whatsoever. Instructions were easy to access on my laptop and total assembly was like 2hrs including the beer. Ive had friends that ordered them after seeing mine and neither had an issue. I actually assembled one of them (ex girlfriend) and didnt need instructions. That one probably took just over an hour.

The box arrived looking a bit worse for wear, but I was not surprised given the weight. There were no parts sticking out of the box nor big holes so I was optimistic.

my experience was similar the box arrive damaged with parts sticking out and most of my assembly parts were ripped out of their packaging. No significant damage to the metal parts but clearly a rough shipping process with poor packaging!
As others have stated the assembly instruction are terrible and the one video they have is difficult to follow. Mine would not lock out properly without adjusting the screw in the break release which they said should have been pre set
I am also concerned with some of the bolts backing out especially since the video even tells you not to secure the hardware on the top portion completely.
I am terrified at this point to put the lift into action. Too much money for the amount of time waiting for it and for the product to arrive like this and terrible instructions.

Getting closer... Had to have my neighbor come put another set of eyes on it and point me in the right direction.

Directions are very poor and the graphical representation cold be better. I think the one sheeter idea derailed the accuracy. I would also say the screw package is not labeled, but the online directions has the guide, go figure.

anybody know the difference between a Jeep TLP and a Bronco one? I can get a used one for Jeep quite cheap... wondering if it will work on a 4 door Bronco

Agree that the pkging should be better to protect the product. None of these are cheap by any means from the aftermarket and they make a ton of money on them.

I looked at the TopLift for mine but with the lift and limited room to put the top lift in the garage with the Bronco (water softner and hot water heater in the way) I ordered a "J-Bar" system. Haven't installed it yet either though because my support beam is more center of my garage so I am going to have to make something up to hang it to get the top off. I've had it since December 23, now it just keeps the Roomba from going into my office at the house and getting hung up lol. Hoping to get up into the attic this fall when it cools down since it is so dang hot here in South TX. to mount some extra supports.

There seem to be other options out there for a lot less that have good reviews. Their packing looks haphazard. I'd be upset after spending that type of coin and have it arrive like that. Glad I held off on a purchase.
