I think it's worth noting that the passive key backup starting location is in the center console, underneath the little mat with a keyfob shape indention. I have a '24 Bronco and a correct fob, just tried to program it for an hour. Followed the instructions, the blinkers blinked and it said "key programming successful" about 5 times. But the key doesn't work, key battery is good. I put the keys in upside down, right side up, and all other ways because I saw that it sometimes takes persistence. Any ideas on how to tell if key programming is enabled?

Only a dealership can enable/disable spare key programming as far as I know, and all vehicles should be enabled from the factory.

I too have a 2024 Ford bronco. I purchased a used Ford bronco key that had the exact same frequency as my two original keys. Using the owners manual in the bronco, I follow the instructions exactly as they described. My key fob was facing buttons up With the unlock button facing the front of the vehicle. I had all three key fobs in the vehicle (the original 2+ the used Ford key fob purchase from eBay). The doors were closed, and my foot was off the break. I started with the two original keys and ended with the replacement key. Worked flawlessly for me following the instructions from the owners manual.

Would suggest, verifying the key frequency, matches the keys that came with the bronco.

Try what post #59 recommends. And then report back if possible. I'm about to buy a new FOB and would apprecitate the confirmation.

Just did the setup. When it works, you get the “key added” message and the doors lock/unlock.
$70 for the fob and another $85 to have a locksmith cut the skeleton key.
Pro tip: it if fails the first time, wait 1m and do the setup rikki tikki. Not taking longer than 10s each step is the way.

I programmed two fobs this weekend.

$72.46 for the two OEM fobs.

$21.98 for the two hardkeys on Amazon, the dealer cut them for free for me.

So $94.44 for two complete OEM keys and fobs.

Thank you Bronco6G for all the information!

Good to hear it worked for you.
Did you get the mechanical key cut?

Hey All - I just tried programming 2 FOBs for my 2022 Bronco. I got the "Programming Successful" message after each one, so I thought all was good. But neither FOB works. Cannot unlock or start the vehicle.

So I figured I'd try again - and I got the message "Max Number of Keys Learned"

So it must have programmed both of them - but they dont work!!

Has anyone run into this?

I think I have to get a dealer to clear everything out and re-program all of them

But I doubt the dealer will program my 2 Amazon keys....

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what went wrong with your programming but a lock smith might be able to help you out for less money. Worth a phone call or 2...

It’s 4 at one time. Not over the lifetime.
For example; If you reached the maximum allowed, then proceeded to lose all of them, the dealership would need to go in and erase all the programmed keys, then they could program new ones.

Realistically if you lose any key, you should bring it to the dealership and have them erase all the keys, then reprogram the ones you still have. That way the one you lost will no longer work.

As far as figuring out which one has a low battery, just start the vehicle with each fob (one at a time with the others nowhere near the vehicle) until it gives you the low battery message again, then you’ll know that specific one has a low battery, and you can replace the battery as needed.
SWMBO found the missing key fob in an RFID proof pouch in the pocket behind the seat. It was a good test of the pouch, sinve the Bronco never found that fob. It's good to know that I can hide the key inside and lock and unlock using the key pad, presently stashed in the fuel door

2022 - 2023 Bronco
General Procedures
Procedure revision date: 03/14/2019
Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys
Programming

NOTE:
This procedure works only if the spare key programming is enabled.

NOTE: Two previously programmed keys are required to perform this procedure. All the steps must be completed within 30 seconds.

NOTE: Make sure all the doors are closed prior to beginning this procedure and they remain closed until the procedure is complete.

  1. Locate the passive key backup starting location. Refer to the Owner Literature for the passive key backup starting location.
  2. Place the first programmed passive key in the backup starting location. Press the START/STOP button.
  3. Wait 5 seconds and then press the START/STOP button.
  4. Remove the first previously programmed passive key.
  5. Within 10 seconds, place the second previously programmed passive key in the backup starting location and press the START/STOP button.
  6. Wait 5 seconds and press the START/STOP button.
  7. Remove the second previously programmed passive key.
  8. NOTE: See the Owner's Literature for maximum number of keys that can be programmed to the vehicle.
Wait 5 seconds and then place the unprogrammed passive key in the backup starting location and press the START/STOP button.
  9. NOTE: If the key does not successfully program, wait at least 10 seconds before attempting to repeat the procedure.
Verify the RKE transmitter operates and the vehicle starts using the new passive key.
Ok, I have tried everything, multiple times over two days. Cannot get this completed - agh! Tried buttons up, buttons down, forward, backwards, quickly, slowly etc etc. Before I continue my attempts, I just want to mention something in case it is a clue...

What I am finding is that when I complete the cycle for second fob (from factory), I hear the blinkers click, the doors lock, and the dashboard says I have successfully programmed the key.

But that is the factory second fob that is already programmed! I haven't even got to the third fob - the one I am actually trying to program!

Mine is a manual - not sure if that makes a difference. 2023 Badlands. Spare fob purchased through Northcoast Keyless. Identical numbers on back of fobs.

Thanks for any help!

Cheers.

All good now. Funny how your brain works. I had my wife read through the instructions and she understood them a different way - and it worked (I was doing each key twice duh....)

Working now.

Cheers.
