Upgrade to roll bar speakers

Just picked up my bronco last weekend am looking to upgrade the speakers. For the roll bar speakers, did any of you upgrade and keep the stock size or is it a must to upgrade to the 6.5 inch with new pods?? Not looking for a killer sound system just a nice upgrade. Thanks!

I did the upgrade using the stock pods, with a set of 4" Kickers. It sucked, no difference whatsoever.

Eventually ended up going with Kicker Key Amp, most of the ForScan tricks noted on this forum, and finally a set of 6.5" Rockville Audio Wakeboard Speakers. Eventually started to hear crackling in the speakers and replaced them with a set of Infinity 6.5". It is above and beyond anything stock, or 4" upgrade. Though I do wish I went with the 8" speakers.

I kept the stock size and went with Alpine s40's. I have the B&O system, so the DSP and amp is on those speakers. To improve the sound from the B&O system, you need a higher-frequency response speaker. These along with the components Alpine I used in the kick and front location, did make a difference. I am waiting for my hard top before I adjust things further.

I followed a very similar route to this, Tried upgraded stock size (Rockford Fosgate), all the forscan mods at the time, and it made no noticeable difference...

The Kicker Key wasn't as well known a mod a the time as it is now, so I ended up using a T-harness , Kenwood amp and the same Rockville 6.5" Wakeboard Speakers (Mine still sound good though). I also replaced the front dash speakers with Focal Auditors in the stock size, still using the Ford kick panel speakers (tried others, didn't sound any better and were harder to mount there).

I eventually added a Skar amp and a custom dual 10" sub box too, but that isn't necessary if you don't need thumping bass.

IMHO, You'll never get much of an improvement out of the rear with out adding an Amp and at least 6.5 Speakers.

I did the larger rear pods, and replaced all the stock speakers with Kicker KS series, including in the kickpanels. Added a Musway 4.100 amp and Kicker 10" powered sub. Used Plug-n-Play kits harness and Amp/Sub power kits, also got the amp and sub from him as well. Very happy with the setup, sounds great and no Forescan mods were needed.

I'm going through the process of upgrading my speakers right now. I have the B&O sound system so it may be different, but I believe the rear speakers may be the same even without the B&O. Keep in mind this is my first audio project and all of my knowledge came from this one project.

I installed a 4" Hertz DCX 100.3 + polyfil in one of the rear pods and have been comparing it to the stock one all morning. No Forscan adjustments or bass blockers installed.

So far, the stock speaker is flatter and more quiet. The range on it doesn't seem to be too wide.

The Hertz speaker is louder because of the higher sensitivity, but that may be a good thing because I don't really notice the rear pods much from the front with the stock system. It also has more depth as well as a built in tweeter so it can get more of the highs.

When I compare the Hertz vs stock speakers, the Hertz sounds better when played as a standalone speaker (like if it was used as a Bluetooth speaker). It also sounds more "busy" and slightly "brighter" because of the increased depth/range and tweeter.

If you're looking to get just more overall from the rear pods, these are a good option.

If you're only looking to increase sound while sitting in the driver's seat, you can probably skip upgrading them.
