Has anyone seen PPF delaminate in less than 2yrs? I would think this would be a warranty issue since in my opinion would be an install issue or film issue. The next issue is what about the rest of the vehicle that was done at the same time? Shop said bring it by and if it is a film issue it would be a warranty issue. Not sure how this wouldn’t be an automatic warranty and no questions. Thoughts?

I had it happen on one vehicle in small area. reputable shop warranted and had vehicle back same day. Said sometimes adhesion issue, usually seen in first 2 years.

the rest of my vehicles are over 5 years with no issues. Xpel and Luminar.

I was just a little surprised to hear the it may be a warranty item. I would have thought it is an easy no questions asked fix considering it is either a film issue or adhesion issue.

It looks like the installer didn't clean, prep it well enough.

Should be a simple warranty install, if they are a proper shop.

Wonder if the running boards are reflecting sunlight and heating up the film. The pattern of the delamination matches the running boards.

What brand film? FYI that area the film is applied on is textured. Not saying that is a cause of that but can play a part.

I had a shop do PPF on the entire vehicle. They didn’t do that particular area because of the texture in the paint—they said the PPF would not adhere well and would come off over time.
they Ceramic coated the area for me instead.

I thought the same but it isn’t the same on the passenger side.

May depend on where you consistently park and which side is getting more sun reflection i.e. east vs west, etc.

Most of the time the vehicle is garaged or is in a parking garage at work that is covered. But it also has been hotter than hell in Houston so maybe they could have helped?

Exactly This!

My Bronco is fully wrapped, But not that spot because installer said it would not adhere to the textured area.

Talk to shop. Either have them replace ( I wouldn't) or have them just replace that piece just up to the textured area.

Please let us know.

And also, it's not the heat. My hood bakes in sun all day, no issues.

That spot is not appropriate to apply PPF. You can't PPF over that textured surface. Believe me, I discussed it with 3 PPF shops when I was getting quotes.

There's a reason it's not delaminating at the top edge of the rocker where there's no chip guard (texture) under the paint.

Sometimes I've heard of "shady" installers blame pressure washers.

Well the issue would be if you used something on the film that would cause the problem. Some companies will deny warranty for using non approved chemicals on the PPF. What brand is the ppf if you don’t mind me asking.
As for the use of power washers, you are not to use tunnel car washes of power washers to wash the ppf areas, it has nothing to do with being shady but putting a high pressure blast of water to edges or even surface of the film could disturb the adhesive and cause damage to the film. I would suggest you take it to the shop that did it and have them give you some answers, I would imagine they would want to send pictures to the company rep and get info on what to do from there or just replace the film and take the loss on labor to keep you happy then try to get warranty from the film company.
