Ok gang, got a question.

Back in April '23, I ordered a Bronco through a local dealership. I should have done more research prior to that time because as I was giving them my deposit (and of course blinded by happiness of getting my rig on the books), failed to establish whether they had an allocations. A few days later and after finally learning about the allocation system (thanks Bronco6G.com), I called them back to ask about allocations, and they said that had no 2 doors left, but I was "next" in line if they got an allocation freed up. I was also told that I'd probably need to reorder for MY24. Bummer. This dealer hasn't really kept me informed of updates either....

After discovering my mistake, I called a smaller dealership in a town 200 miles away in my old college town. Why not check with them and create a back up order, I thought? Surprisingly, I spoke with a dealer that had her shyte squared away, told me the exact allocations they had remaining, and was extremely helpful. I thought, may as well try ordering there as well since they have a better chance of actually getting a build within the MY23 timeline. So after a deposit and a few e-sign docs, I get my DORA and confirmation from Ford immediately. She has been helpful every time I text her.

Fast forward to last week. Both builds are now scheduled for production next week (8/14) and both have window stickers generated now. One is scheduled on Thursday and one on Friday - EXACT SAME BUILDS. Sort of shocked because the first dealership was fairly adamant I would need to reorder and was vague about the entire process.

So I made up my mind that I would much rather deal with the second dealership (200 miles away) that was upfront with allocations and that had bent over backwards to help me through the entire process.

My question. When should I abandon the first order? I know I will be doing it sooner or later, but is there a better time to do so? Is it customary to ask for my deposit back on that first order? I know that the dealership will have 0 issues selling it (2dr, 2.7, SAS, MIC, iconic silver), but how likely will it be to get my $500 back, I kind of feel it was my fault I didn't know enough in the first place and that it was a $500 lesson.

Just looking for a bit of advice.
1. When should I call the first dealer and abandon my first order?
2. How likely will I get my deposit back on the first order?

Thanks gang. Sorry if these are dumb questions. This was my first new car order and obviously jumped the gun a bit. BUT, I am going to be a new Bronco owner soone, and that makes up for my stupidity

What was the deposit refund policy for the first dealer?? Do you have a pricing agreement with either dealer??
I "think" the first deposit was refundable. Like I said, I was sort of wearing blinders by being so excited about ordering my first new rig.

And yes, I have a pricing agreement with both.

Technically the first dealer came thru whether they told you or not, like you said you didn't ask. Plenty here have placed multiple orders with dealers and didn't think twice and took first one that came in.

Your call, but it's the exact same Bronco, same exact price but I'd verify the deal with each before you decide to see they'll still honor it before giving up on the other.

Good points. I appreciate your input! I'll call them both Monday and verify everything.

Another thing to ask about is if you go with the dealer further away will your local dealer do warranty work, some dealers are turning away work unless you bought the vehicle from them.

One more thought - reward the second dealer by leaving him to sell the Bronco and take the original order. No problems with $500 refund and repairs.
